Guys I need some help with these cylinders from a 1997 Vmax 600.. Pictures were taken as if cylinders were on the sled. Pto being the new and Mag being the old cylinder. The casting numbers are correct except for the Y-1 and Y-2. The Y-2 cylinder is the old one that was still good on the sled and the Y-1 is the new replacement through a exchange at Rec Supply. I find that the chamfering on the new cylinder is very little compared to the old one. Is it safe to use the new one or should I send it back to get fixed. I have found out now that this engine was done before and maybe his old cylinders were sent out to be replated and not exchanged by the previous owner. It's to late to get his old cylinder back for replating. That would explain the difference in chamfer on the ports. Does anybody know what the Y-1 and Y-2 are for. Check out the pics and tell me what you think.

Your #1 performance shop!
Those are the same cylinders. The reason you see difference in the port chamfer is because they weren't chamfered very much after getting renicasiled and they are done by hand at yamaha originally.
same cylinders, its just that when it was redone it wasnt chamfered the same, this is done by hand even at yamaha, so even if you have 2 cylinders never before off a sled you can see some slight differances in the chamfer work. Yours has none because it was stripped, possibly welded and rebored and plated, this removes the chamfer, it can easily be done with a 90 degree porting head and sanding rolls or if your confident enuff a fine tooth cardide bit.
Same cylinders, the casting numbers are the same the y-1 and y-2 are mold numbers, same port dimensions.

Thanks guys. I was just a little scared of putting this engine back together and having a ring snag a port. I think I will take it to the Harley shop and get them to touch up the chamfering a little bit. Thanks again.
