Does anyone know the Yamaha serial numbering for the SR540s as to how it relates to the model year. I bought my SRV used and some paperwork lists it as an 84 and other lists it as an 88. Based on the graphics I am pretty sure its not an 84. But I have no more confidence that its an 88 than I am that it is a 86, 87, or an 89.
The serial numbers (the only identifiable number on the body) is 9 digits long. I believe that the first three digits identify the model and year and the last six digits are the build or sequence number.
Any help would be appreciated.

8y7 is an SRV. Just as 8vo is a Phazer it has nothing to do with a year.
Hmm mine is an SRV but my serial is 8U7051328. I was told its an 82 but no paperwork to be sure.

8u7 is a 83 srv and a 8v0 is a std 84 phazer with no electric start. a 82 srv would start8r6

The first three numbers are 84L. I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet but it is one of the black ones with the orange and red decals.
