My 97 vmax 600 twin is drinking oil by the qt. 250 miles last weekend and 5 qts. of oil! I get about 10 miles per gallon. That puts me about 20-1. No fouled plugs just using way to much oil. Guys I rode with used about half as much oil I did! I have adjusted the oil pump so that the mark falls short of what the manual recomends but Im afriad to go to far. Dont need a seizer. Cable is works fine no binding and does adjust. How far can I go with the adjustment? Right now Im about 1/16 to 1/8 before the mark. Or is there something else I should look at? This sled has stock pistons and rings with 2700 miles on them. PSI pipe ,stopper notch, Thin head gasket, and a maxperformance clutch kit. Before the upgrades It still used oil so I dont think they have affected the oil consumption? Im at aloss with this problem.Any Ideas.

Your oil pump may be shot. Happened to me on the muni ride it was drinkin 2 quarts to 100 miles. Never fouled a plug. Your oil pump may be runnin on emergency mode.

Double check thou

I think '97 had pumps that could fail and go to wide open feed,
you want to use around 10-12 gals. to 1 qt. around 120ish miles
to a qt. mark your bottle and go on a good trip then refill with oil
and gas and see where your at.

and also if thats all stock you may wabt to rebuild the top end
there was a problem on the '97's pistons, alowed the rings to sppin
and catch a port.

also,

1 gal = 128 oz. 1 qt = 32 oz.
10 gal = 1280 oz

If you want 50:1, then 1280/50 = 26. You should burn 26 oz of oil per 1280 oz (10 gal) of gas.

26/32 = .8 -- 26 oz = 80% of a quart.

If you burn exactly 1 quart of oil per tank of gas, you're running 40:1 fuelil ratio. (1280/32 = 40) 40:1 is "richer" than 50:1.

1 qt = .95 liter

or contact rich from rich motorsports that is who I got my new oil pump from. fast and a good price

you're good at cyphering.
