well im sick of my sx for the rough trails that are around here and i cant do any ditchbanging with it. i can but its too heavy and no suspension. so im going to turn that into a lake sled. here are 3 sleds that i am interested in. give me input on what one you would choose and why or why not.
2007 phazer (maybe FX)
pros; gas mileage, suspension, and i just liek the sled
cons; ice, overheating, price (going into college)
2004 viper s
pros; 1200 miles, friend owns it, 2 stroke!!, ohlins
cons; gas mileage, heavy, dont like rear suspension
i can get this for about 4200$ maybe less, everytime this sled has been on the trails ive been with the guy. never beat.
2006 ski doo mxz 500
i dont really know much about this sled. i drove it for about 30 miles and i really liked it. seemed good for ditchbanging and jumping. i dont like that it is a ski doo but i do like that it is a smaller, lighter 2 stroke. leaning toward this sled if i go 2 stroke. plus 4000$ with under 600 miles on it.
these are jut my opinions on pros and cons, help me out guys!

I would not overlook that Phazer! I rode them last year during the TY demo rides and I have to tell ya it was an absulute blast to ride!. If you are into the ditchbanging scene it is a perfect fit. Now will Yammi anounce the new 3 cylinder version today? yeah baby!!
Nothing personal on the Viper, I owned 2 of them. But I would have to lean toward the new technology.
I liked the FX version the best.

Well it sounds like your descision is already made. Go with the skidoo, it sounds like what you are looking for. The other 2 are great machines (Iguess) but it does not suit what you want.
phazer or 500ss it's actaually a 600 two of my buds have them

Take a moment and stop at a ski doo dealer if your thinking about a doo ditch banger. The freestyle looks like a pretty fun ditch banger and can be had for cheap. The dealer here has a hold over 300 somethin cc freestyle that he will let go for like $3500. But I would assume a 500 could be found on the cheap too.
Last weekend I rode with a couple young guys (12 year olds) on the MXZ 500 fans. They had a blast off the trail. I don't know that watching them was a fair compair as they were probably 75 pounds tops. Add my 200 pounds plus on that sled and it probably wouldn't be as nimble. But they went everywhere they pointed them. Even some places I am not sure they wanted to be. They also seemed to jump very well.

That Viper will get 14-15 mpg, and uses about a quart of oild every 200 miles.
I'm biased, obviously, but I like my Viper S a lot. I've got it set up pretty well with the ohlins front and rear, and I was impressed with the Ohlins in the rear skid.
I've had a skidoo - I'll have a tough time ever buying one again after seeing the way BRP sorts their warranty issues out in the field. I didn't like hearing my stock sled needed to be rebuilt at 2000 miles for $2600 bucks. When BRP told me they cover everything but labor, and they had a "update kit" for the problem, that told me what kind of a company they are. Still cost me over $600.
Didn't help that after that was fixed, the starter bracket broke so I started using the pull start until I got the bracket for it - I heard seomthing bouncing around in the motor so I shut it off and took it back to the dealer, told them I wondered if the crank wasn't going again. The dealer stripped the motor down to the crank and said it was fine. They also said that they noticed when they took the recoil off there was a broken C Clip in there and that the stator and flywheel were kinda chewed up. Told me that'd be $800 to fix and I had to pay them to put the motor back together too, and put it back in my sled. That was the final straw. I asked them how much to pay for what they had done and to throw the short block back together - $250!! I had them throw everything into boxes and I put everything that they took out / apart back together. It was like a big 3D puzzle!
That is why I will probably never buy another Ski-Doo. Part BRP / and part the Dealer's fault I guess.

Some Vipers will get 14-15 mpg. I typically get 9 - 10 mpg with my Viper that is bone stock.

I ride with three other guys on Vipers, too. we all get 12-15 depending on what were riding. One guy consistently gets 15 - even when I'm getting 12 (running railroad grades) and he's usually leading. It's not uncommon for us to hit 15 - I'd check your setup if you're only getting 9 or 10 mpg - something is wrong there, a stock Viper should be doing better than that.JeepTherapy said:Some Vipers will get 14-15 mpg. Something isn't right with that viper. If you ride it wide open on a grade you will do better than 9 or 10 mpg with it. Seen a few vipers with bad fuel pumps and bad stators that got bad mileage. Maybe you have a similar problem.

I honestly get 9-10 mpg. My dealer doesn't believe me. They tell me that they took all the gas out of it and put exactly 1 gallon of gas in it and drove it 17 miles. I get it back and the first tank I got exactly 10 mpg with it. The second tank I drove it as easy as I could. I averaged about 40 mph drove it about 80 miles. I never went past half throttle. I got 12 mpg. The sled is still under warranty so I will keep going back to the dealer.
