Question - can the viper be set up to ride like the 2003-2007 Doo Rev chassis. I really want to stay with Yamaha - but - LOVE the riding position and suspension on the Rev x Doo.
Man! been monitoring DooTalk and they got ISUUUUES with the Rev platform motors. Got me scared of that engine package. Pistons, rings, PTO seals electronics WOW I am back to looking for a Viper.
Airblue Thought about going Doo - but may be scared straight!

What and see what Yamaha unleases this evening when they announce the 08's! could be your ideal sled.

I think a 1-1/2" seat from Boss ( bossseats.com ) and a 2" bar riser would make the viper perfect. But it's a sit down sled so there will always be a compromise there. Get the suspension dialed in and you'd be suprised at how good a Viper can ride.

Here is a 03 Mnt. Viper with 3.5" rise on the bars and a 3" gain on the Boss high rise/flat top. I'm still getting use to riding at this new position. My knees are at a right angle and the transition to standing up is easy. It feels very familiar to my buddies 07 Summit. I would recommend only a 1.5" seat gain on a trail sled.

I've been thinking about a 1.5" boss seat on my Venom. I've already got the two inch riser. How do you like that boss seat?
How do you the 2" riser on handle bars?Do you have to lengthen any cables at 2 "?

VenomMod: I do like the Boss seat. The seat is light and well built. I ordered the Shovel and probe storage type. Personally I prefer to have this equipment on my back. I was looking for maximum storage. I was latter told to order the Nios type seat but without the bottle straps. The top of the seat has a great grip. Me dealer warned me about ordering one with a lot of color. The color tends to wash out easy.
Ihviper: You can put a simple 2" block on top of your steering post. This is the least expensive. The stock brake & cables may be long enough.
I installed a Power Mad pivot adaptor and 2" riser. (3.5" total) I am able to rotate the whole thing forward so I may stand. Still trying to dail in the correct C.G. when I stand. The brake cable, oil and throttle cable were extened. (total cost: $200. US)

Here's my REV fighter. You will notice most of the pieces mentioned are in place. (2" bar riser, Excell seat riser) I'm running a shock revalve in the rear, but I would like to switch to Ohlins to finish it off. Not interested in a skid swap unless a Nytro skid comes along cheap.
I ride with a REV and have no trouble hanging in the rough. Not saying I'll run away, but I'm right there. The REV is still more nimble when it gets real tight and narrow. Get the ergos and shocks right and the Viper becomes MUCH more capable. Actually, the stock ergos are useless in the rough. Get the seat and bars up where you can move around!

Which Boss seats fit the viper frame? Boss website only list the standard seat for the Viper. Which flattop seat will fit?? I'm looking to put the
1 -1/2 " flattop on my viper.

I think they can build you any model or type you want for a Viper. Best thing to do is call them. The wait may be long. I ordered mine in Oct. 06 and took delivery 10 weeks later.

I only added a 1 inch riser and its surprising how much more I can steer and move around. Im 6' tall and my Viper never felt good except when I was racing across lake Gogebic. The only downside is I lost a few mph on top and the outside of my hands are a little colder. Well worth the $12. Getting a 2 inch riser for next season since it seems like my sled will never wear out with seasons like this.

Thanks Cos,
I found a dealers website that listed the Boss seats for the Viper frame. Will look into it further.
I do mostly trail riding....you think the 1.5" would be better for my sled?

I have a 2" bar riser and the Excell seat riser on my Viper. Coupled with the Mono-shock suspension it rides like a dream compared to stock. The bars are still not high enough to stand for more than 30 seconds at a time, I am ~6'1". My knees are higher than my hips as well, so the transition to standing is difficult still.
I am going to either a 3.5" riser or 5.5" (2" coupled with the 3.5") for the bars. I also, think I am going to add 1-2" on the bottom of the Excell Seat riser.

How do you like the excell seat riser? Does the riser raise the front of the seat and from what to what? Thanks. Your sled looks great.

Mjet: Seat height?
It depends how tall you are. I.M.O. 1.5" would be the way to go for the trail. I'm 5'7" and really have to lay out there to corner this thing. Keep in mind the Viper Mnt. is missing the sway-bar. Ski lift is an issue. But this is a mountain machine. A crossover machine would be better suited for both trail and mountain riding. The new 3" ergo's on the Boss seat has my legs thanking me after 100 miles on the trail. In the mountains or boondocking, I'm primarily standing.

My BOSS flat-top is one of the Best mods on my sled, @ 6' 1" & with a 4" bar riser rotated forward, Pioneer revalved shocks the fit & ride of the sled is perfect. My buddy has a new REV & had been bragging that no one can keep up with him in the rough...... That was untill last weekend & he could not keep up with the 'Ol red monster on the blown out trails heading back to camp
Viper7MI:
The Excell seat riser raises the seat 2" in the front and 3" in the back. On the down side...it weighs 8#.

Wow, that's about $31.25 a pound plus tax! Does it make that much of a difference in comfort? I looked at them online but was really turned off by the price. Has anyone seen someone with a homemade seat riser? It may sound cheesy but some people out there have some great fabricating skills.
The Excell riser works for me, for now. I wasn't going to spend the $$$ on the riser until I called Boss. I got a rather cold reception from them and a 3-month lead time, IF I found a dealer to order one through (wouldn't even give me any leads!). I also don't like the fade-factor on the Boss seat. They seem to turn grey after 1 season, and others have come apart from what I have seen. We need to lean on Mtn Mod a little harder I guess?
Oh yeah... Do a search on here and you will find some nice homebuilt risers that folks have done. Personally, I didn't want to mess with making one.....
