This is a friends sled that does not get drivin much. Another friend borrowed it a week ago to go riding last weekend with us.
When he got it out of the barn there were alot of mice in it. Changed plugs, a little fuel in the holes and she was running. They run it around there house during the week to get some miles on it. One cold day it would not start, just tried and backfired. They tried for a hr changing plugs and so on and said spark was very weak.
I picked it up and put it in my heated repair shop. I ck spark and there was none. I let it set until the end of day when I could spend some time on it. I ck spark about 4 hrs later and it was weak but it did have one. Pulled the cord and she was running.
Took it for a 3 day trip. It run and started perfect for 2 days. Sunday morn it was 0 degrees. When we tried to pull it over it pulled very hard. Much harded than the SRX that we had with us. We are are over 200 lbs and could not get a full pull out of it. Well 2 hrs later and it still would not start. Changed the plugs several times because they were wet, , but we could put the plugs in the SRX and they would run. Put a hair drier on the carbs and coil for a hr and it did no good. It was the same as before, a very weak spark then at the end none at all. Loaded it on the trailer and took it home. Stopped at the car wash and washed the salt off of it and put it in my shop. I opend the hood and there was a 1/2 of ice on the motor. Pulled the cord twice and she was running. I am sure the problem is with the weak spark but not sure where to start. May be a bad ground. Looking for some direction.
Thanks Bruce

Check for wire rub throughs,stator??
Yep, what daman said
Had a hard start on my 97 sx I could only start it on new plugs.Turned out the stator was done.Swapped it out and it started every time.

After you check the harness, check the resistance vs spec of the stator. Sounds like the classic stator failure.

Make sure you get the 300W stator, the ones from older sx's will not work!
