When my sled was stock I NEVER saw less than 12-15mpg, all depended on snow conditions and the type of riding I was doing.

I have a stock 04 Viper. I average 10 mpg or less with it. I did take it for a hundred mile run and was very careful to not ever go beyond half throttle. I put on about 80 miles and got 12 mpg. I have taken it back to the dealer and they tell me all is well....

13 to 16 depending on thumb position and snow condition.
mains 1 or 2 sizes down and needle dropped one position.
10800 miles

I think dropping the needle makes the 14-15 mpg sled into a 15-16 mpg sled.

I think if you are running less than 12 you need to look at some items like track tension, jetting and clutching. I noticed a gain from the green spring and 53/43 helix - doesn't take long for these things to pay for themselves at $2.50 / gallon + for premium unleaded .....

Was getting 15-16 with mine.A little harder this year for some raeson.I was told the brass insert for the needle wear over time, causing them to use more fuel.Anybody hear of that?
My wife got 17.2 with hers on one trip last year. There is 4000 less miles on hers. This is mostly groomed trails.

Hey how big of a tank are the vipers? Does the first half tank go pretty quick on yours 2, i think mine is sucking the fuel bad...

it has SO MUCH to do with snow depth, rider weight, driving habits, ambient temperature, humidity, Relative Air Density, How many studs, if you have a taller windshield or mirrors and or saddlebags, how much fuel and oil is in your sled, what type of wearbars and the toe adjustment of your skis.and EVEN WHAT TYPE of oil you use!!! There is SO MANY things to consider... A sled with 3000 miles will get different mileage than a brand new sled!!!! THEY SHOULD get between 10 and 15 MPG, but do you see, that is a BIG DIFFERENCE (up to 50%) between sleds!!!! WASHING AND WAXING MY racecar gets the car to go faster!!! EVERY LITTLE BIT either HELPS OR HURTS!!! It's not so CUT AND DRY as " my sled gets 10mpg and so should yours" !!!! Gary Oles nosboy

Things like "what type of helmet" and "what jacket you are wearing" all come into play!!!! What kind of STICKERS you have on the cowl or hood????? You could take the SAME 100 mile trail SOUTH and get 10mpg, and take the SAME TRAIL HOME (north) and get 11 or 12 mpg!!!! (wind speed and direction and drag coefficient)

It's not a viper, but my 99 srx gave me 7 mpg on the first 51 miles, ( new crank, center cylinder, and rings, oil in tank) and gradually went up from there. Next fill up showed 10.1 mpg, then 11.7, then back to 10.8mpg. Now it's been warm here and the snow has been loose. I'm also only hitting 8000rpms on a good hardpack stretch.

Thanks NOSBOY, i guess i kinda figured that stuff but never really set in my mind of why my sled wasn't up to par one day....

Was riding in lots of white fluffy stuff and racing an Fsix Constantly...and beating him constantly hehe :2strokes:

NOSBOY - the 4 sleds - mine included - all ran in the same conditions, same gas, 2 had Yammi Oil, one had polaris' ves, and I'm running the Fowler stuff. I'm the heaviest at 260 and was getting 14 mp while anothe guy weighing 225 on a 136" viper got 15. My buddy with the same sled as me - but studed with 8 tooth driver and regeared, 192 studs was getting the worst. He was getting like 12. We all got gas at the same places, all rode the same trails. So all I'm saying is if you're getting 10 mpg on a Viper - something is up - be it clutching, belt wear, track tension, or carbureation something is amiss if you're only getting 10 mpg.

it depends on whether i am abusive with the throttle or not. even if i am abusive i don't burn any more than any other two stroke in our group

I have 2 IDENTICAL 2004 BLACK viper er's. I get a LOT BETTER fuel mileage than my wife does... She drives it like a FARM TRACTOR and we can go on the SAME EXACT 50 mile trip and I will have 3 miles MORE than her?????? It is 3 miles worth of SPINNING the track when I come off a little 1 foot hill or crossing a road, I LIKE throwing the bump on the street!!!! I have 3 more miles than her and STILL HAVE MORE FUEL in my tank????????? SHE HAS NEVER EVER squeezed the throttle to the handlebar,,, and I DO IT ALL THE TIME?????? I am at LEAST A FOOT taller and MORE THAN 100 pounds heavier!!!! Same bibs, jackets and helmets,,, same stickers on the side of the sled,,,, so you see,,, DRIVING LIKE AN IDIOT actually gives you BETTER GAS MILEAGE!!!!!
