2003 RX 1 - Oil Consumption

How much oil if any would you go through in this sled in one season...my buddy has this sled and has gone through a litre this season already....is it normal ???

Don't run the new 0w30 syn, you have to run the 5w30 semi-syn. The engine just seems to not go through the 5w30 as the 0w30 did on mine...

Diceman,

The '03 and '04 had harder rings. They didnt seat as well as the new rings.

Its alot of work, complete motor rebuild to change rings but that is the only real fix.

Get used to the oil usage or rebuild it.

oil burning

i had an 03 rx-1 with 5000mls on it and yamaha warrentied it in 06 with me being 2nd owner. they had ring issues on 03s. tell them it burns aquart every 400mls. donahue motorsports in wisconsin rapids w.i. did mine . yamaha said they sould run 30,000mls with no problems they should stand by their claim!

make sure not to mention this to the EPA, they might try to ban fourstrokes now.

I just bought a 03 not much of a chance with riding it. Why would they need a total rebuild if you were just changing to updated rings?Sled hauls ok from what I rode on it and the guy took good care and even broke it in like I would of needless to say the break in was not as yamaha would of told you too!! So I should be ok right?
