A friend of mine informed me he blew his track out this weekend. He was running my old 2002 stock Viper .92" lug track with 192 picks in it on his old '98 SRX 600. He had over 6000 miles on the track so that isn't too bad. Anyways he was wondering what a good replacement would be for trail riding. I suggested the 9830 1" and stud it or the 9928 ice claw with just a few added studs. Does anyone else have any other suggestions or should he go with one of these?
Does anyone know how the ice claw and ice ripper tracks are holding up? I heard they were pretty good.

ice claw
I got a 136 ice claw last year for my 1998 venture, I have about 2000km on it and its as in good shape as the day I bought it.

The Ice claw is the pre-studded(in the lugs) track , correct? What do you do when the studs wear down, are they replacable?Or do you just throw in regular studs?

My stock track with 192 studs is finally starting to puke on me after 16,500 km (10,300 miles) on my 2000 SRX 700. I will be replacing it in the summer with the fully clipped 9830 1" six pitch and putting 144 1.075" studs down the middle

I have the 1" 9830H w/o studs in mine and really quite like it. It hooks up so well I lift the inside ski if I'm too aggressive coming out of the corners.

Not sure about the ice claw, but I know the ice ripper are pre studded in the lugs, they stick out 1/8th of an inch. I may be lookin at this track over the summer. I do need a new one. Someone on the give away ride had one and they showed it to me. He said he was very happy with it. I think it was Sobfrog. Could be wrong.

Thanks for the responses. Shortly after I posted this ,I found out a relative of mine had a Polaris/Camoplast take off from a '99 XLT Special for $100.00 sitting around. The lug height is only .82" , but he plans on studding it up and turning it backwards. The track only had 200 miles on it when it was replaced for a 1.25" lug track. I know I may be looking into another track for myself. I am thinking of the 1.25" Ice ripper for my Viper. It would be nice for the icy corners common in the UP.

I'd start scoping out ebay. I got mine for $260 shipped.

Fuzz, how do you like those skis?I have thought of c&a's, but was leary of excessive ski pressure and steering effort as some have warned of.Whats your experience been with the razor's?

Well I did the ski's and the track between last season and this season. So basically it was old style last year and new style this year.
I replaced but did not adjust my front limiter straps so they are at the same spot as before on the short lug track. I replaced all the suspension bushings but did not change any spring settings front or rear. I did secure the trailing arm mounting brackets to the tunnel as they have loosened up over the previous 7800 miles.
So with that said I can honestly say the difference the combination the Razor's and the Predator track make to the driver experience are worth every penny.
My last ride out was a 100 mile route thru nearly all snow conditions you would see in Michigan. Fresh powder, Deep lake effect field powder, Groomed trail, crappy groomed trail, county unplowed road, powerlines/gas lines, snirt/ice tight trails and a hill climb. From Mancelona to Walloon Lake area. The ski's were no harder to turn than before just better at the job of turning the sled or keeping it pointed in the direction I had them in. There was no darting. I used the Yamaha mount and did not modify it in anyway. The ski's from Rich at the show came with 6" carbide bars (not the shaper bar version) and came to slightly over $300 complete.
The Camoplast 9830H (Arctic Cat Quiet drive model) is so much better than the stocker it is no comparison. Except for ice it hooks up quite a bit better than the .92 Yoko on my dad's Viper 700. I used to power fishtail the vmax for fun. With the stocker under there it was pretty easy. The first time I tried it with the 9830H I damn near rolled the sled over. It simply does not want to go sideways. Between the better hookup in the rear and the bite the keel design of the razor's have I can lift the inside ski powering out of corners. It never did that before.
So between last season and this one I dropped something like $800 on the Vmax and it rides better than it ever has. I wish I would have done it a few years ago. I am very pleased.
Now all I want is an honest 100 MPH out of it (actual GPS top speeds are in the very low 80's on a county road less than 1 mile distance). And maybe reverse.

Fuzz, thanks for the insights, I am thinking of going to a 1.25 136 predator next year and different skis also.I have a ripsaw now and its good overall, but lacking in deep or loose snow in general so I was thinking the predator would be better in this respect, thanks for the helplater, Josh

track suggestions
How is it going. I have 02' Viper with 7000 miles on it. I just replaced the track at the begining of this season with the Camplast Ice Ripper. It's nice. 256 studs that hold really well. Great hook up and stopped on the hard packed. I would recommend this track for sure.
Have fun!

Id go with a 1" Hacksaw. Im not a fan of the pre-studded tracks. They dont hook up as well as a track with traditional studs and they are known for the studs ripping out of the lugs over time.
Ive got a 1.25" Ripsaw on my Polaris and Im not crazy about it. The track really hooks up on hardpack, but it has some wicked track howl.

I have a hacksaw on my srx and that track hooks up VERY well, and top speed is awesome with it. You can get them for basically a dime a dozen too. Definately recommend that track to anyone.
