I'm putting in some new pistons on my 1994 VMax 500 (after 6000 miles). I have the following (2 oem piston kits, top & bottom end gaskets,).
Questions:
***Does anything need to be done to the old cylinders before installing the new Pistons?
***Do the piston rings have a top side and botom, I realize that there is a front of the piston and back?
***Anything else I should watch out for?
Thanks,
Toad

Before installing the new equipment you can run a FINE three flat-stone hone down the cylinders if there are any light scratches. If not, you don't have to do anything with them.
As for the rings, there is a "T" on the top side
Make sure to put in new headgaskets if they have never been changed and make sure all gasket surfaces are clean. Oil everything good with 10W-30 or something during reassembly. Hope that helps!

The (t) on the top of the piston rings are very small i needed a magnifying glass to see it . maybe its my age getting to me lol.
