The belt on the Viper is worn pretty good (like an 8th of an inch) (got my use outta that one!!) Anyway,I replaced it with the stock belt (yamaha belt) set my ride height to about 1/16" outta the secondary, and my deflection seems to be "ok". But the belt seems to be too tight on my primary, when the sled comes to an idle the belt squeals and seems to drag on the primary....am I missing something??

I'll go back and check my deflection, but I really hate to move my engine if I dont have to......

Is it possible I just got a short belt??

I thaught my belt should ride 1/32'' out of the secondary so I raised it with washers and the belt would squeal. I removed the washers and the belt is now back to 1/32'' down. No squeal and everything works fine.

to have the deflection set in spec with that yamaha clutches and 8DN belt you're most likely going to have a squeel at idle. If the squeel bothers you you can do what you did and remove the washers from the back of the secondary to increase the deflection a little bit and it wont hurt anything. As the belt wears then put the washers back in.

I have yet to see a new 8dn above the secondary and not be too tight. If anything it should be flush or down in very little. I just put a 4416 dayco on the wifes vmax and that was even shorter than the 8dn which is suposed to be the same length. The 4432 will ride above the secondary as it is 1/4 inch longer.

ok, Thanks guys !!! I was trying to figure out ,why, when I had everything set correctly, the belt was a little too tight. :o|

So I"ll just run it flush, that should take care of the squeal/drag,at idle.

Thanks again!
