I have been using an excessive amount of oil this year so I checked my oil pump cable setting and found that the gap was much larger than 22mm. I've adjusted the gap to 22mm, but I'm now wondering if my oil comsumption will now go up because I've tightened the cable.
Any idea??

If you tightened the cable it will pump more oil as you'll be opening the pump a little more. How bad are you using oil? Could be a bad oil pump? Was the cable fully seated before you checked it and all that good stuff? If all was well I would suggest a bad oil pump, they rarely go bad but when they do they are typically stuck in the full open position so they are always pumping max oil, no matter where you are in the throttle. Hard to say for sure really.

I did a 180 Km last week end and my oil resevoir was down to the Low mark. I think it took over a quart to fill it up.
What's the capacity of the oil resevoir on an 2001 SXR600??
My son's MXZ600HO used a small fraction of what I did. It's a fuel and Oil miser!!!!
I've rejetted and adjusted my needles because my fuel consumption was terrible (now using Bender specs adjusted for temperature). I'm wondering if that will reduce the oil consumtion a little or just increase the oil to fuel ratio ???

holds around 3.2qt's,
you should be getting a good 100-125 MPQ at 40-50:1
when you get your jetting down to where it's good go through these
steps to set your thottle and pump,
1. set idle
2. adjust throttle end play to 2mm
3.adjust oil pump free play to 23-24mm
in that order....should do better then

I wonder how much is left in the resevoir when you're at the low mark???
It's too bad you can't see the oil level with the airbox in place.
Question: Does the oil pump "pump" oil in or just alow more to be syphoned into the fuel lines at higher throttle positions??? i.e. will lower fuel consumption actually reduce oil usage???

yes the pump "pumps" more oil as the throttle is opend
yes using less gas will use less oil..in my experience...

Actually I think my cable wasn't seated properly. It doesn't take much fooling around under the hood to dislodge it.
Much better oil usage and fuel usage today!!
