Hey Guys, I went out today, and noticed I am doing extremely bad fuel milage. I put a full tank last week and only rode on the farm and so far I have 76 kms on it and gas level is on empty, checked the inside3 of tank and it eas emplty. I don't think the tank leaks cause I don't smell anything. The sled run great except for a whole lot of rattling under the hood. VMAX 95 600
Any thoughts?

Check fuel hoses!
You might have a leak in one of the fuel line hoses. Does this sled ever back fire? If it does you carb float bowls might need adjusting, since it would be throwing raw fuel into the tail pipe, causing poor fuel mileage. If that all checks out, check you track tension and all of your idler wheel bearings. Does your sled roll easily down hills. If it doesn't and you need to apply gas to get down hills your drive shaft bearings are toast.

No backfiring.
And unfortunatly no hills to test.
SHe is still very fat on take offs, and when i let go of the troottle she still goes a little distance before she comes to a comp[lete stop.
She takes off at 4000rpm. normal?
I do hear like a turbine when coming to a stop.....

if its rich its most likely a good idea to check the choke plungers, if they stick partially on it will use alot of gas and be lazy down low in the rpm range like you describe.

Thanks for the replies.
Anyone here live in the Alexandria, Ont. area? I'd like to know if you would come for the day and ride in the farm land, and at the same time, feel my sled and tell me if you notice anything out of the ordinary. I have been a sled owner for 1 year and to be frank, I road it maybe 5 times since I had it, so I am not sure what it is supposed to sound like, and feel like.
Sorry for sounding like I know nothing about sleds, which is pretty much correct. However, I know that if something needs repairing, I definatly will be able to do so. But what do I know whats not working properly.

Sounds like the primary clutch needs some love. A worn primary can kill mpg and make a lot of noise. The spyder will break if the sheave or cap bushings are worn!

Thanks fish, hmmm! I guess I have to look in the manual to see what a primary is. Should I stop riding her and repair it. Or can I do a couple of weekends with her.....?
I know thats a hard question to answer when you really haven't heard the engine.....
thanks!

I had a friend that put hundreds of miles on a 95 500 with a bad primary clutch until he broke an arm off the spyder. He was getting about 6 mpg!! I would at least remove the primary clutch cap so you can give it a quick once-over. This is very easy, just remove the belt and unscrew the 6 cap bolts without stripping them. Once you have the cap off you will be able to see everything better. If the cap and sliding sheave bushing are to worn out, I would replace them before riding. This web page should help.
