Just returned from 3 days riding in Michigan UP. Up in Munising and Grand Marais there is tons of snow. Other parts of the UP weren't so fortunate. Anyways, had a great time. Had many 100+mph runs, lotsa fun running across the lake at 85+. Here's the beef:

Last day, packing up, my buddy went outside to start the sleds to put them on the trailer. He gets his started, then tries to move it into position for the trailer.

SNAP #$%&*

The handlebars sheared off at the T. Just floppin' around. No problem, guide it up on the trailer and homeward bound.

Could you imagine what could have happened if that sucker let go while whizzing across the lake at 85mph? :ORC

Or worse, coming into a hot turn facing trees at 40mph? :ORC

Anyone have any objections to welding it to fix it? If I have to replace it, do I have to remove the engine?
THanks

My 98 MSRX sheared off at the weld bythe upper bushing while going through the trees. Kinda weird trying to hit the brakes because when you pull the handle bar too far you get throttle . I put a steel shaft inside the broken tube then welded it. I drilled 2 holes in the lower shaft 180 degrees apart and secured the installed shaft by welding the holes shut. Put a 2" rise on it while I was at it

That's exactly what to do. Put a reinforcement pipe in it and weld it up, and do what he did with the holes. If you do a good job it will be better than stock. Definately does make you think though about if it would break in a corner or something. :o| At least it didn't though.
