Guys, I need some help. I totally destroyed the motor in my 2000 Phaser, so am now shopping for a used motor. How far back can I go with the old Phasers that share the same crankcase motor mount bolt pattern as my 2000? Have any of you guys swapped older phaser motors into a newer chassis? What am I getting into?

I have been told that the '91 and up Phaser II 485's are the same as mine, only because the crank gasket kits are the same. That seems plausible, as I can't imagine why Yammie would see the need to redesign this motor for my generation of Phaser. I don't want to buy a used motor only to find that it won't fit. I've already sunken enough money into this fine machine this season. Yammie didn't sell many of the 2000-2003 Phasers/Venture XL's, so that's why I'm pursuing the "go back in time" angle. The game plan is to bolt on my newer cooling air intake shroud, slap my carbs on, swap to my primary clutch, bolt the motor into the chassis, fire her up, and rip on down the trail. That's the plan anyway. Could be the only ripping I'll be doing is ripping out my hair as the wife is equally ripped on good money I just squandered on something that couldn't possibly work.

I appreciate any help you can give. My sled is toast and my season is equally toasted. :o| :o|

yamahas phazer from 1999-2001, ML500 from 2000-2001, and venture xl from 1999-2007 will fit. the cases from the older phazers will not bolt up as they do have different mount casts. ive had both apart at the same time and the only differences i noticed were the mounts and the stator has different wiring.
