:o| Finally got snow and the vipers down. Trying to figure out what happened and maybe someone can help. It is an 03 viper er. The bolt that holds the lower reverse gear peirce through the chaincase cover. This happened after the sled was stuck in snow over the seat. I took it apart and everything looked good. The bolt seemed to unthread itself. The bearings seem alright. Not sure what happened. I also noticed something else but it might not be related. One of the track tensioning bolts was gone. Not sure how long ago this happened and if this could have contributed to the problem. Any ideas would be great. I don't want to throw it back together and have this happen again.
Thanks

nothing causes it except it came loose, I always blue locktite them to keep them from backing out. Its possible to get your cover tig welded and repaired, I dont know the extent of the danage without seein it but if it just poked a small hole in it , can be welded pretty easily. Not trying to be a smart alleic but this is why a good once a year inspection with the chaincase cover off, check chain slack and change oil is a good idea.

same thing happened to me, i used a 5/16 carriage bolt and some washers on the outside along with some gasket maker to seal it up. never leaked. u need to use a flat head carriage bolt or grind a round one down a little.

I know, Its the wifes sled and It was all done last year and she didn't ride much so I checked the oil and thought it was good to go. My sled is going in my garage now and getting checked out. The bolt whole is pretty big and it spidered around it so I think it is junk. Thanks for the quick reply. I am going to try to get it back together before all the snows melts.
Thanks

been there done that, my first trip out West sitting at the bottom of the 5hithouse Hill when I noticed gear lube leaking, DAM IT I did not get it tight!, and I just had it off, so now as Mr Viper said blue lock-tight is my friend

Thanks guys. Sounds like if everthing looks good, I will use the blue lock-tight and put a new cover on and its good to go.
Thanks

Yea I forgot to say we rode back to the trailer. Drove down to The Old Corral, took off the cover clean it with brake clean and JB Weld it over-night. it worked
