Well the old girl let me down.
After a long wait northern NH now has lots of snow. We reserved a cabin for 5 nights looking to take advantage of the best snow in 5 or 6 years. The first night in pittsburg I went out for a solo ride to check out the conditions. The riding was great. After about 65 miles, with the daylight fading to dark the big red TEMP light came on. Stopped to check it out and I have coolant running out of the belly pan. I got back to cabin by stopping every 1/2 - 2/3 mile to scoop snow on the engine.
Leak seems to be in the coolant pump. I took it to local repair shop - turns out the leak is the seal behind the impeller. BUT - the bad part is that the bolt attaching the impeller to the shaft is gone. Impeller is junk, pump housing is junk, and the bolt & washer are somewhere in the cooling system.
:o| :o| :o| :o| :o|
Not a quick fix. We're heading home early, and I'll fix the coolant pump at home.
Best riding in years, and I'm headed home.

Thats a lot of trouble free miles on a two stroke! I have never gotten over about 1000 miles on a sled without the engine blowing up (formally owned cats :o| ).

Havn't had any problems with my viper yet knock on wood, and hope it stays that way.... Good luck on fixing your sled up!

4600kms on my 01 MM 700.
Replaced 1 set of hyfax.
Typical Yamaha a little maintainence + gas + oil
AND RIDE..........................

Sorry to hear that. I was out with some buddy's on sunday. 4 Cats, 1 doo, and my viper. The doo blew up 2 hours into the ride and 1 cat would not start. Really takes the fun out of it for everybody. Hope you get it fixed before the snow's gone.
