I'm working on a coolant pump repair on my Vmax 700. A couple of questions:

1) Is there any reason to use sled specific pre-mixed coolant? Or is regular automotive anti-freeze mixed with distilled water the same thing?

2) The coolant outlet on the cylinder head is refered to as the thermostat housing in the parts breakdown. But there is no thermostat inside. And there is no thermostat shown on the parts breakdown. Do sleds typically nave no thermostat?? I always just assumed there was a thermostat inside the housing on the head.

Regular auto anti-freeze(i like prestone) and distilled water is fine,, mix it to a 60/40 ratio.

no your sled did not come with a thermo form the factory...

Is that typical?

Do most have them, or not? Just curious...
Only some of bigger cc sleds did like the srx's, viper's, and the '97 VM800
had thermo's

they kinda stoped thermos in '96..

the non-powervalved sleds didnt have thermostats. The viper and srx do, and the four strokes do. And yes as others have said automotive coolant is fine. Get the extended life, it is only a few cents more expensive and lasts a lot longer.
