ok so i know its been done and mountain perf. sells a kit. ive been thinking of doing it to my 99 srx got lots of money and mods into her as it is.cant sell her for what shes worth to me . so ive considered this,im looking for better powder fun in the deep stuff.thinking of the 144 x 2"

so is it really wort it, doing the long track? will it give me the floatation im looking for? what are some pros and cons to this mod?

anyone that has it done already are you alround happy with the long track is it as good in the powder as a purpose built 144 powder sled ie:cat, doo, polar.

please some of your views would be greatb4 i spend another grand on my sled

maybe its not that common.... just another quick question..will a viper seat fit the srx? bolt right up or with some mods got a chance of getting 1 nevery very cheep.thanks

Viper seat will bolt on.

As for making the srx a mountain sled, sure you can. We have in our stable that is a 159". It works well, but the guy that owns it bought a 900 1m this year. He likes that better than the srx. Narrower and not as heavy.

I've got a 144" on my 600. It works great here in MN and I am happy with its performance out west. I'd do a 16 wide if I was buying a track. It is wider and heavier than I'd like but I get everywhere I want to go on it.

Viper seat will not bolt on unless you change the gas tank. Go with the mountain performance kit, they will give you a rear heat exchanger with it. The tracks USA kit they told me would fit with the rear heat exchanger had to be hacked and cut to accomodate an exchanger. Tracks USA's rail extensions are nice but the tunnel extension was junk. Pro's are obviously traction and better deep snow performance but weight and agility on a trail is huge compared to a 121"

The viper seat will bolt on without changing the tank but it will look stupid where the seat meets the tank because the viper style seat doesn't use the flexible cords to attach to the poles on the tank, so those poles will just be sitting there and look crappy because there is no flap to cover them. As for the longtrack, yes it does make a very big difference in off trail/powder performance, but the sled will still be heavy unless you add a lot of lightweight parts and remove heavy and unneccessary parts. I would go with the tracks usa tip up style rail extensions and then a hartman tunnel extension kit because the tracksusa extension is not very good as someone else said. The tracksusa rail extensions are light years ahead of the other guys though. Good luck!

thanks for the info guys .ill be checking out the tracks usa and hartmans still not 100% sure ill do the mod but getting the feelers out. as i own a 151 x 2" 900 1m cat as well (just got it 1 monthe ago) .i like the long track in the deep but i dont fully trust the cat the way i do my srx.me and my srx and yamaha go way way back, and shes never let me down or left me stranded.just was looking for a way to have the srx do the deep stuff.and stay 100% loyal to yamaha..

I long tracked my '99 SRX 4 years ago. Added 136" M-10 with 1 1/2" camoplast paddle. Worth every penny. For next year I am adding rail extensions from tracks usa to make 151". Also am adding works shocks to front to get a little more clearance and travel. Hartman tunnel extension on it now. I am having the new extension custom made. Might want to think about extrovert drivers. I had terrible hyfax ware problems. Added new drivers last year to run track loose without ratcheting - hyfax still look new. Good luck

I can relate - I bought 07 Apex Mountain in November 2006 - Sold it already. Goin longer on my SRX

ok as far as the seat goes, yes you can use a viper seat on your srx, I have one on mine, much better ride the the stock srx seat, also should look into a set of viper bars, wider and better control, and as for turning her into a moutain sled, save your money and pick soem other mods for her, she was borna and bread for the lakes and windy trails, srx'x are very poor in the deep snow, to much weight and they suck snow mike well we wont get into that here but you get the idea. if you like I can try to get some pics of my viper seat set up for you , just have to do some downsizeing of the pics, Dan
