I have a stock 2004 yamaha viper ER with 420 miles on it. I know what the dealer says and what is top speed isn`t the same. I can only get mine to 105 MPH on the spedo. Does this sound close? :2strokes:

There are so many variables here it isn't even funny. What kind of conditions were you running in? What clutching and gearing are you running? What rider weight? What are your rpms on a wide open pull out of the hole all the way to top end?

i've had my 02 at 116 mph on lake gogebic it was still climbing but i let off because i was afraid to blow it up

My 04 Viper S did 117mph on the speedo. It was very cold out and the trail was hard and flat. Warmer day's it only goes 105-110mph. on the speedo. The speedo is 10mph out according to the GPS I tested with. Top speed in ideal conditions should be around 107-110mph.

I agree with all above, bone stock Viper should run about 105MPH (116 on the speedo) and that's in ideal conditions. Your UserID and your Avatar don't match, are you the stretch or is the Viper? If it's the machine, that will cost you some top speed.

my nickname is stretch. My avatar is my 6 yr old on my viper. My viper is just the way it came from yamaha. I haven`t changed gears, clutch nothing. It was around 20 degrees out last night. I was rolling at 50MPH when I opened it up. I wiegh 195lbs. Snow was flat and hard but not ice. Atlest now I have a good idea of others speeds. tonight it`s going to be -6 so i`ll try again.

I have seen 128 on my dreameter. hard packed trail, 8600 rpm, all stock gearing and clutching. It was pretty cold. I see 120 very frequently on my speedo. I know these numbers are greatly inflated but it sounds cool to tell people you were going 128.

the speedos are 10% off against gps - if the speedo says 100 it's really 90. I checked mine against the gps at slow speeds and top end - gps is nice, as it will store the top speed - highest i've seen this year with 144 studs on the ice was 96 mph. without studs it was worth another 6-8 mph.

get some heel clickers and with the right helix you will gain 10 mph on top.

last year I saw 113mph on the dreamometer...this year on not the greatest conditions I saw 104mph...heading out tommorrow...its gunna be a little warmer...but I installed a torque limiter..see if that makes a difference...

see 112-114 with out a problem on hard paked trail, i whiegh 245lbs and have a 9830 with 144 studs, minor clutching.

Yah, mine with the heel clicker and helix hit 114 MPH last weekend on the radar gun (126MPH on speedo). Gun was accurate too, cause I compared it to a previous GPS reading I had and the two matched up perfectly. Other then a torque limiter and some studs, my machine is otherwise stock.

I've actually seen 123 on mine down perfect hardpack road.....so, minus 10-12 mph that means around 110, I still doubt it...ok maybe 108, sounds good. I know iwasn;t doing anything close to 123, but that's why it's the dream o meter.

oh this post again...LOL!!! My best was 125 mph (dream-o-meter) on a cold night, wind at my back and the stock track on it ........on a very long hard packed lake. I was racing a ZRT600 and was toying with him. He had been heckling me before our UP trip and he was very humble afterwards. He's now a Yamaha rider that's a member here. I guess I might have been a part of his reborn christianship into Yamaha. :WayCool:

PS: here's the ironic part. The next year another kid came up in our group and was the new owner of that same ZRT600. He had stuck a bucket load of mods into it. It was bored, had aftermarket race pipes, heads shaved......all that stuff. It could pull me only way up on the century mark by about 1 length. He was strutting around like a pee-cock afterwards. I was like......dude, your sled is practically in pro stock form and your bragging? He says. "yeh but I did it with a 600"!!! ....I go, "all I gotta do is put pipes on and your finsished". But some people you just cannot reason with. :o|
