hello
I have a 1990 exciter and it is running perfectly except my plugs are always white as a ghost. it has 155 PSI compression. no intake leaks. running stock jetting(290) and Air screws are out 5/8 (stock) Running at 1700 ft.
where do I start? crank air screw out more? raise the needles? upsize the main jets? pilot jets?
thanks,
Russ

I'd say up the Main Jets......that is if you're sure all jets and passage ways are clear and clean. Make sure, your carb boots are in good shape. If you're running that lean maybe someone gutted the airbox and you have more air flow but stock jetting ? I always figured the needles and air screws could be used for quick fine tuning on warm or cold days ?

Hey guys,
OK i upped the mains from a 290 to a 300, it rans so rich it bogs and barely runs. it's so rich the plugs are damp. i put the 290's back in, and it goes like a raped ape - but the plugs are showing it's running dangerously lean. and if I crank the air screw out - it still runs lean.
any ideas?
thanks

make sure our 290 jets are cleans, scratch dirt of from jet hole. Or buy new 290 jets....

just so you know 320 is the std. jet for that engine. I am running 280 or 270 at 8,000 feet.
