OK heres the scoop
Last friday I was zipping thru the twisties and using a lot of breaks. They always tended to make a whiney noise when applied but I figured that to be normal.
well after a bunch of Jamming on the breaks to make some turns, the "whiney noise" started to be present even without the breaks on. not as loud but kinda worried me all the same
Yesterday, was riding and after a few hours of riding, the same noise started and then as soon as I would let off the gas my sled would slow really fast and make that noise.
then i had no throttle, I could hit it but nothing would happen
it would sputter and back fired a few times. I found that if I stopped and let it get to under 2000 rpm then I could hit it and all was fine
I dont know much But i think it might have something to do with the secondary clutch and or the break
and maybe even that TOPS thingy
Hope you guys can help but no hurries as we are getting RAIN
Thanks

So it's the same noise from when we went out? I guess it wasn't the clutches backshifting then! lol. Mine will often make what sounds to be the same noise but it will never come to a stop unless you hit the brakes... so i donno there.
The last thing with the throttle is definetly the TORS. There's a few ways to fix that...
1. Your throttle cable could be too tight. I like to loosen to the point that the flipper is touching the hand grip when the carbs are in full open... you can check this by pushing on the point where the throttle cable goes into and check for movement after you adjust the cable. Very easy and fast to do
2. The switch in the throttle (see the pivot point??? there's an electrical switch in there letting the sled know that you are on the throttle) could have been freezing up or got a chunk of ice or snow in it briefly.
3. You can unplug the two wires going to the carbs (they each have connectors on the right side or mag side of the carbs) and plug the two sets into each other. This will bypass the switch in the throttle block telling the sled that you always have the throttle lever open, so the TORS will never activate until you re-connect the wires again.

LOL... all that typing when all I needed to say was... "you probably just got a peice of ice or snow behind the switch in the throttle block." The TORS is designed to not let the sled rev past 3500 rpm if there is a throttle malfunction, such as the cable being pulled open by something under the hood, the switch will send a signal to the CDI to cut the timing so the sled won't take off on you.

nope it was definately not ice or snow.. it would only happen when that noise would happen ( kinda as if the break was stuck on or something) and then the sled (perhaps for some safety measure) would not allow it to throttle. Then I would stop, let the idle drop to below 2000 rpm and then I could hit the gas and it was as if nothing happened until the next time I had to use the breaks.
I know I am really hard on the breaks and have locked it up quite a few times as I go past the trail mouth when driving down a road or trying not to hit trees in the twisties
Hope this explains it a bit more clearly as I hope to find an answer

I bet there are a few members that might have some insight to this..
she runs fast and strong aside from this issue as described above

the noise is probablly from a warped rotor, and it only makes it itermitently when cool because it is at normal temp. When you warm it up it expands, and you get the noise all of the time. We have had rotors on our modified get hot enough to crack, and give a terrible vibration when on the brakes. Maxdlx

would that have an effect on the clutching and revving? after the wierd noise (rotor sounding issue,) I have NO control over throttle until I let it idle down to under 2000rpm
thats the strange part of all this (IMO)
