Is it worth it?

I dunno, but I'm considering the same mod. Your riding style is going to determine what skid is best. From what I can tell if you don't want to lose top end speed, have a little easier install and like to ride hard and jump, the expert-x is the way to go. The m-10 is better for touring and stutter bumps, but can't take a lot of hard abuse. Correct me if i'm wrong. AVU

from what i have seen.....m 10's are great if you wanna take the skid out after every few hundred miles to check for loose, broken, worn out parts.....a few buddies we ride with have them and what a pain in the arse...if you dont maintenence it (often) the skid will break...never would i own one (although they ride pretty nice). but that is just what i have seen, there are plenty of other viable options, i have been checking out the E-Z- ride skid...looks pretty trick...seems like alot of folks on here talking about the expert x, AD bovin, and others......in my opinion, yes it will be worth your time and money to invest in a rear skid, as far as which one suits you best im not sure.

I had an M-10 in my 600sx for two seasons (about 6000km on the skid) and there are absolutely no loose or damaged parts, the only thing that isn't like new is the ARC sticker on the rear arm... it has started to peel off slightly. Maybe I just got a good one? I have however been debating whether or not to put it in my other sled or sell it. It rides amazing, but it does suck a bit of top end off and doesn't transfer weight too well.

8 inch rear wheels will give you back most of that top end loss, and they look awesome to boot

True, I have given that a thought. I took an extra 1/4" off the transfer blocks to transfer a little more weight. I just love the way the SRX looks when it's low to the ground like with the stock skid, makes it look super fast. I put a set of Adjustable shock mounts in and it still didn't raise the front end up to compensate for the rear, still looked too front heavy IMO. It'll be sitting in my basement anyway until I decide for sure. If I could take 2" of travel out of it and get it to sit that much lower I would have my mind made up in an instant. Just not sure how without getting $$$ shocks or losing too much ride quality

Anyway, viper rules - The sled I am currently thinking about putting the M-10 in now has almost 11,000 miles, I think 6000 miles is a great place to start! lol. 6000 miles is nothing for a viper, freshen it up every year with new rings and you're set for a long time.

Some day, when I hit 40,000 miles on my SRX i'll post pics of the speedo!!! LOL. I plan on keeping it until then.

Thanks guys!

I think I have decided to go with an expert x. A custom snowmobiler builder here is having a special group buy in august. I will let him do the installation as well. He told me the expert x will blow away the m10. He says it transfers weight really well and the harder you ride the sled, the better the skid performs. He put one in a an 06 rev and the owner said it blew away his old skid.

Viper-Rules, you won't be disappointed with the Expert, I love mine. There is also tons of adjustability, when you get it dialed in the way you want, you won't even recognize the sled you're on! I have lots of butt time on 600SDI's and 800 gades, and I wouldn't even think of trading. The ones I love are the sucker bumps you don't see until you're right on them on a cloudy day, and you figure your spine is gonna get compressed, and then........ nothing. Excell motorosports also makes a kit with added cross tubes to stiffen it up laterally, do a search on here, I bought the parts from them, haven't installed yet, I may even have an extra cross tube for ya, I think they shipped two. Only down side is the bolts in the tunnel work loose. They need to be torqued to spec with blue loctitie, and checked often. I just put a small magic marker line on each one so I can check with a quick glance. I am going to look around this summer for some special lockwashers to resolve this.

Hi SRXer!

Thanks for your input. Where abouts in Southern ontario are you from. Anyway's if you have an extra cross member let me know. I won't be getting the expert x until august anyway's. Has to be a way to keep those bolts from slacking off. I was thinking about adding bar risers as well and having the engine re-ringed with new pistions. I was looking at a new nytro but don't want to spend 16k when all is said and done. I will just put in 3k or so in the viper and ride it a few more years.

I'm only 15 min west of you, I'll give you a holler on the board when I jerk the skid to put the new crossbar in.
