87 + octane booster = flashing temp light

On my last ride, i had no other choice but to put 87 into my SRX 600. I found some octane booster and threw that in. It said it'd treat up to 15 gallons, figured that was enough. Well, my DTC (i think that's what it's referred to) kept flashing at me at anything over 7000 rpms(i'd back off of the throttle when it happened). I'm hoping it's just because of the lower octane gas.

Thoughts?

Octane booster does squat. Flashing light usually indicates a problem with the powervalves. The only sled that has dcs(detonation warning light) is the 02 700 SRX.

hmmm... i'll have to pull the PV's tomorrow and check 'em out. I just thought it was wierd that it happened for the first time ever when i had to put 87 in.

Sorry, i didn't realize that it didn't have the DCS, i'd read about it, but this was the first time the coolant light ever flashed at me, figured that's what it was called.

The light also flashes when you have a powervalve issue also.

Do you remember if it flashed a pattern?? were you in low snow condtions??
where maybe it was running warm that day.

I would think it is powervalves as he said that anything over 7000 rpm it starts to flash at him. 6800 or so looks very close to 7000 rpm on the tach and that's when the valves start to open, so my first guess would be that you have a stuck valve, second guess short, open circuit in servo or a bad servo, third guess would be over heat but that would stay flashing no matter what rpms he was at until the water temp cooled down wouldn't it? That's what I would think, but i'm not too sure about anything really lol.

It was definitely the gas. I put 93 in it, and ran it in all kinds of conditions this weekend and it didn't flash at me once (aside from startup).

Yeah, i don't know. It started as soon as i put the 87 and Octane Booster in it, and didn't stop until i put 93 back in.

ya had to be overheating the sled running in low snow or something, that sled doesnt have any input as to DCS. the coolant light will blink if its too hot, or a flash code indicating a problem with powervalves, hand warmers or coolant temp, thats the only thing it can do, nothing to do with detonation control, only found on the 2002 srx.
One thing I think I would personally do is to check the tops of the piston crown for damage as if you were using low octane fuel and you were overheating it due to either low snow or detonation, it might have eatin the exh edge off the front of the pistons. might still run good now but it wont forever like that.

There was 12" of fresh snow most times it happened and 20º out, so it definitely wasn't overheating. One thing it could be is the hand warmers, i've worn out the grip on the brake side and need to replace it. I ran it with the handwarmers off for most of the weekend this weekend, so that might be the difference. Thanks, i'm going to have to look at that.
