Hi guys!
My sister and her boyfriend came home for the weekend, been raining all week but yesterday we got 15cm of snow.
This morning we decided to go for a little ride, unsure about the conditions but it didn`t rain or snow so I guess that`s nice weather.
A friend with an SX Viper joined us.

We first rode up to a lake to check the ice, seemed OK but we turned around and went up on another mountain.
On our way up I noticed that I was alone, brother in law was way behind and I could see that he had stopped, something was wrong.
I went down to them and he said the sled wouldnt move forward. WTF I thought, I figured he probably blew the belt. Checked belt OK. Gees, did the chain snap?. Did I do something wrong when I reassembled it from the water cleaning?. I figured the bolt that holds the lower gear came loose, he didn`t have high rews when it happened so I figured it couldnt be the chain.
Anyway, he had to be towed home, with no brakes. It was quite interesting because we hade to go down some pretty steep hills. I rode behind him and held him with a rope.
It was a fiddly trip, here I blew the belt on my warrior. Glad I had a spare belt.
Down a steep hill, had the rope secured to a tree and then we carefully let it down the hill.
Got it home and I pulled the chaincover. Everything was OK and I was like "WTFH".

Then I took a look at the driveshaft..
It`s snapped right off.. gees why does this happen.
I wonder if some evil forces has decided to give my brother in law a really hard time.
On his first ride he went through the lake and the sled went for a dive. Now this.
I wonder if it can have something to do with the lake diving?.
If the bearings got bad from the water and then the axle started jumping around?. Is it possible?.
Anyway, I`m going to need a new driveshaft.. anyone have one??.
The cool thing is that I`ve never pulled a skid so I`m really looking forward to it.. . Also it will be cool to try my new hydraulic press in my workshop.
Wellwell that`s all.. .

Joakim, my 99srx did the same thing but, when the shaft broke the chaincase and bearing went to or maybe not in that order, i ended up pulling the shaft out with leaving the skid in place, posted and purchased all parts used on here except for the bearings and seals bought them new from Port yamaha, not to bad of a job except for doing it in my snowmobile trailer by myself a extra set of hands would have been handy but i managed to get her back in...the worst part to me was the pipes, e-brake and main brake.. those are some awesome pictures you have as well ..good luck John

my brothers mountain cat 800 just had the same problem but more severe. his driveshaft come out like that but when we opened up the chaincase it looked bad gears were messed up and all the bearings were junk. we didn't need a new driveshaft though. teeth on the gears were chewed up. its not to bad of a fix though hardest part is to get the stuff to fit all correctly.

i have to say that putzing with the e brake is the worst part of it. and extra pair of hand putting the skid back in is helpful. the regular brake you just lift out of the way. some people have issue with the exhaust but i change mine from stock to my hauck can in just a few minutes, i do this depending on what my mood is for the day.

Sorry about the problems. Do you guys ride without helmets???????????????????
Hi guys!
Thanks alot for the replies!.
Coldplay97: Thanks!. I`m amazed that you were able to repair in your trailer, and all by yourself. However I think I will pull the skid and track just to have it done because I have never done it before.. . Looking forward to it.
Jr_amsoil: Thanks, sorry to hear that. I guess we`re lucky then, a broken shaft ain`t that expensive, new gears and chain would be much more then the shaft.
Fasttoys17: Yes I still have the Warrior.. but I`m doing my best to get it sold tho.. hope someone needs a new sled for the easter holiday. Yes we are lucky to still have snow.. hope it will last a month more.
blue_missile: Thanks, now I know what I can expect to fiddle a little extra with (e brake), but I hope it will go smooth. And yes I think the MM is cursed. But, do you think a bad driveshaft bearing could make the axle snap?.
Yamahasrx700: Yes I`m sorry to say that we ride without helmets. However I guess our type of riding is somewhat different then the type of riding you do.. but that`s no excuse.. we need helmets as much as you do.
I dunno why it is like that.. I wore my dirtbike helmet all the time before but for some reason I stopped wearing it.. .
I know it`s STUPID.
Wellwell

really sorry to hear about the luck!! so when did you get a warrior anyways? still got the srx??? nice pics, even if they are of bad luck lol!! still waiting on the cam too, I would think it would be here anytime
2001SRXTRIPLE: Thanks for the nice reply.
03viperguy: Yeah the broken shaft sucks, especially so close to the end of the season, my brother in law lost quite a few rides because of the lake diving so I hope he will get to ride some more before the season is over.
Nice to hear that the helmet camera is on it`s way.
I got the warrior one month ago.. . And I regret it.. . The fuel consumption, spark plug consumption, and sometimes unreliable powder-power made me look for a new sled.
So I ended up with a Warrior.. but it aint the right sled for me.
Infact, I put it out for sale two days afer I got it.
I`d rather fill alot of gas and have fun then ride like a wuss on the Warrior.
As for the MM I called the local dealer today. A new driveshaft was 200$, in other words more then twice as expensive as a shaft in the US.
But, I want it fast so I ordered it, + the bearings and seal in the chaincase.
If I were to get the parts from the US the season would probably be over before I got the sled back up`n running. If I had more time I`d order the parts from the US for sure.
So I think I will start tearing it apart tomorrow morning.
Oh, do any of you guys think that a bad driveshaft bearing can make the shaft snap?.
I was just thinking that maybe one of the bearings went bad from the lake diving and then it made the shaft snap.. ?.
Hmm
Oh dealer said he should see the parts on Thursday so if I`m lucky I can start reassemble this weekend.

Hey Buddy you should have let me know I would have sent one out to ya if you would have paid the shipping.
Hi pro116 ! . Thanks that is an awesome offer, but the thing is I need the shaft ASAP and if I were to get it from the US it would take weeks, I hope you understand.
I removed the shaft today, will write a worklog now.. take a look.

No i dont... i think i will get me an apex mountain for next season..
Ok sorry to hear that.. I`m selling mine.. want a moutain sled again.
Ever ridden a Apex mtn?. Or for that matter a new fourstroke?.
They are different from the smokers.. .
Where do you live?. Maybe I can buy your MM when I get the Warrior sold.. hehe.

so you sold your SRX?
Hi silversnow!.
I`m sorry to say I did.. . I dunno what was wrong with me.. . But at one point I reached the top of aggrevation over changing sparkplugs and putting 1000l of gas in the tank.. . And now I regret that I sold it. This whole sled swap almost ruined my winter. But I did get a few fun rides on the SRX before it went. Miss it though.
I hate myself for doing what I critisize other people for doing, selling something that you put your soul into to, to get it the way you want it.. and then sell it and also loose alot of money.
But that`s just the way it is.
This morning a guy called and wondered if I would trade the Warrior for a 2003 Viper Mountain with 2700km`s on the clocks. I would get 2300$ between also.. .
So I`m thinking quite much right now.. .
What do do.. ?.
