I am doing maintenance on my skid frame and noticed that there is now way to replace the bearings in the large upper idler wheels. Am I missing something? Are there other year sleds that have wheels with replaceable bearings?

Thanks

They are replaceable, but they are pressed onto the upper shaft. Best way i have found to get them out is to thread an old suspenion bolt all the way into the upper shaft with the suspension removed and hit the bolt in order to push the shaft through. If you have a hydraluic or pneumatic press it will make getting the other one off easier. Then just a snap ring holds the bearing in the wheel.

Yamaholic, I think you are mistaken on this. When I replaced my upper wheels they had a molded in bearing. Sucks, but I replaced them with stock wheels and they weren't cheap.

Yes I think the bearings are molded in the wheels. They are pressed on the shaft but the bearings I don't recall being removable

thats what I was afraid of. 67.00 a piece to replace the entire wheel. maybe I'll try to repak the bearings first.

if im not mistaken...u can buy the same size wheels(not oem) with replacable bearings.....i think royal distributing carries them

My buddies' 00 sxr 700 had replaceable bearing on those wheels. My Dad's 02 Viper ER does not though.

thanks guy. I'll buy a set of SXR wheels at 23.00 each. Already got new bearings. Gotta love this site.

I put mine in the lathe...machined out to a couple thou smaller then o.d. of bearing...pressed bearing out....machined snap ring groove...popped in new bearing...put in snap ring...good as new...and only a few bucks for a new bearing. 3000kms on this setup no problem.

I do realize that not everyone has access to a lathe...but if you do this works well
