I know i'm way late to the game on this, but i rode a 4stroke for the first time this weekend.

My brother in law got an '05 RS Rage. I took it for a ride on the lake and couldn't really decide what i thought about it.

It's really smooth... almost too smooth (completely different feel from my SRX... not nearly as torque-ey). It felt like it had some sort of engine braking as well... which would take some getting used to. It was also a lot higher than my SRX, and really stiff.

I dunno, felt more like driving a car than riding a sled. I think i'll stick to my two stroke for awhile longer.

I'm with you, almost too smooth and no hard hitting powerband like a 2 stroke sled. You line 'em up and the 4 stroke is definetely fast, but certainly different.I'd like to try a appex or something like that, supposedely more pull to it.I did'nt like the engine braking on the ones that I have rode either.I guees I am just so used to riding a 2 stroke sled in my experience people who go straight to a 4 stroke and aren't coming from a 2 stroke don't have this problem as we are describing.

I never rode one but I have watched several videos on you tube etc, That is exactly what it looks like on the videos! Like it just takes off & goes but no "RUSH" like an automatic in a car! But I would still love to ride one!

I rode my daughter's 06 Rage for 120 miles. I also rode my son-in-laws Attak, that sled is wild and the exhaust resonates in your helmet around 5000 rpm. I like the rider foward on Attak a little better than the Rage, but bought Rage as it was a leftover and still rides good with the 136 inch track. I still have my edge, but they are two different style of sleds, the four stroke has torque from the start right up to peak rpm, where the two stroke has to build up momemtum to get to its powerband. I won't be able to throw the Rage around, like my Edge. Son-in-law is happy as he has to rebuild my two strokes occassionally. The only disadvantage I found is insurance companies frown on insuring sleds at or near 1000cc, regardless if two or four stroke. I have to be carefull loading sled on trailer, because you have to feather the throttle. The dealer called the Rage "stupid" and the Attak " retarded" in terms of potential of sled and maybe the rational of a rider wanting to tame it. I like the exhaust sound of sled compared to a street bike. plowking

I thought the Apex was awesome. Best m achine I have ever ridden. You are right about the insurance companies Plow King. I might go with a 600 Rev SDI in the very near future, Great on gas and I do love that Rev ride...

I rode my first 4 stroke this year aswell...it was a 05 RX1..nothing like the others above...however it had the new suspension...coming from a Viper, I was impressed...
It didn't feel that heavy...cornering was odd but stable...but torque and that growl was amazing...Needless to say..I'm turned onto 4 strokes now...however...I'll keep the Viper for a few more years and allot of sucking up to the wife in the meantime...
My buddy who was a hardcore cat guy rode his first Apex this year...I've never seen anyone do a complete 180...basically he just purchased a sooped up Vector for the moment...but when he sets his sites on a new Apex he'll unleash the ZR900 and keep both Yamahas...I was sooo surprised about his change...anyways...
