Got an 02 Viper Rebuilt 240 miles ago. Anti-Freeze coming out a few of the head bolts. Doesnt seem to be really bad theres none in the cylinders, but I cant fiqure out why???? Only a few bolts on each cylinder. Maybe the head is out of form?? Do I need new bushings?? Please help Sled has bender pipes which I think I'm going to take off and sell. Could they be the problem?? Please email me at artic_cat_dan@hotmail.com Thanks Dan from Moorhead Minnesota.. Maybe I should put it all back to stock?????

You need to put a thread sealant on the head bolt threads. The bolts enter the water jacket, so you need to seal the threads. I use permatex thread sealant with teflon. It also helps achieve the correct torque also.
Re-torque
Try to re-torque the headbolts add 2-3 pounds more torque on a cold engine, if i remember correctly I had one or two bolts leak after my rebuild, but i hadn't re-torqued it yet...no leak after I re-torqued...R

I don't know if they are TRORQUe TO YIELD head bolts and they HAVE TO BE REPLACED??????????????? mrviper 700 could answer that question for you!!!!! SOME head bolts STRETCH and they cannot be used a second time.. I LIKE to REPLACE the head bolts everytime I do a rebuild (on auto engines) ... ADDING teflon liquid or teflon tape will DISTORT the ACTUAL TORQUE SPEC and you will have to torque the bolts TIGHTER because of the TEFLON between the threads... Don (mrviper700) could probably tell you the difference in torque by using a lubricant on the threads compared to :dry" threads....
there is a spec and there is a formula to figure out the thread engagement and the pitch depth.. I don't know it!!!! But there is a way to figure it out!!! Don will know that stuff about WHAT thread sealer will provide what kind of lubricating quality and what lubricant would require what torque!!!! He's SMART on things like that.. I ,,, on the other hand KNOW about HONING!!! (just KIDDING,,,don,,,) I don't know much about honing either!!!!! (but I have learned a LOT LATELY about it!!!!!) Gary Oles nosboy

Isn't wet torque (with lube) lower than dry torque? I would think the dry torque would be higher to overcome the friction? Been so long since I have dealt with it that I don't recall exactly.
when you use a lubricant other than 30 weight motor oil on the threads, USUALLY the torque is LESS... 30 weight oil on an arp headbolt is around 65.. If you use the ARP bolt lube, its 45... I dont know the lubricity of TEFLON.. (although it IS the slickest thing known to mankind!!!) but JEEPTHERAPY,, you're probably right!!!!

Use a little copper coat on the brass washer or simply replace the brass washers that are leaking. Do not put any thread tape or sealer on the bolts!

What Srxspec said just replace the washers.
