Is it a big job?? Any suggestions on what to choose for racing--660', 1000' or 1/4 mile?

It's easy, just pull the chaincase cover and it is self-explanatory. For 1000' use something like 23/38 if you have good traction.
660' 21-40
1000' 22-38 or equivlent
1/4 mile 23-38
1000' 22-38 or equivlent
1/4 mile 23-38

20-39 works well in 500 ft.I use to run clickers on grass also.You can't beat those weights for drag racing.
