can a 144 inch track be placed successfully onto a 141 inch skid without rail extentions?... If so, what exactly needs to be done as preparation?...
141" tracks are just hard to come by..
thanks..

There are offset axle kits that use a 144 track on a 141 skid. The 144 track is only 1 pitch longer than the 141 track so it is less than 1.5 inches longer on the rail. You can also move your skid back about 1.5 inches which has benefits for approach angle. There is a ton of info on www.Snowest.com about this. Also Hartman and Mountain Performance have a good info on this as well. That said, the 144 skid has several benefits over the earlier 141 skids.

it should work, I would how ever install 7.5" rear wheels on it, this will keep the axle from being all the way back at the end of the adjustment slot, not too mention make the track roll easier. The 7.5 wheels are off a 1979 srx440, they are same size i.d. bearing (20mm) axle as what you have, youll need to grind the axle spacers about a 1/8th inch shorter to make it all bolt up perfectly. If you look in the working log under darth Viper, youll see I added this to my own sled.

off-set axle with 8" wheels is how I did mine. I just sold my axle too..........

You can up your drivers to 9 teeth and use 8" rear wheel kit to use 144 on 141" rails like I did.......

You will need to do a d+r of you plan on using 9t 2.52 pitch drivers with a 2" track. Just the 8" wheels and offset axle will get you where you need to go if you plan on sticking with a tall track.
