I just picked up a 1999 SRX700 from a friend on Saturday morning...boy, it looks good in that Blue - I've already received a couple of compliments on it!
I was able to purchase the SRX at a good price, but it does need work. The owner previous to my friend had shaved the heads to bump up compression and power, but the motor went bad while my friend was using it. It still turns over, but it will need a rebuild, and likely some new (or good used) parts to get running for next season.
I'll be scanning the posts here (and elsewhere on the web) to learn what I can, but leads on parts, tips, etc. would always be appreciated.
I'll try to post some pics of the sled soon. Thanks!

Actually it is very common to shave the heads .020-.030" and add a couple base gaskets on the 98-99 srx's to raise the port timing a little bit and give it a little more compression. The 2000-2002's have more compression and higher ports than the 98-99's. If the clutching is stock on that 99 you have a LOT to gain by changing it, they were horrible stock.

Well in reality you are just bringing it up to the newer srx's port specs, and those are plenty safe with good fuel. To each his own i guess
Welcome. this site is full of info. You will probably be able to get more info on SRX's here than any other sled or from any other site. One heads up is the 98-99 SRX cylinders are different from the 00-02. Open it up and see what ya got.

On the clutching, there was clutch work done to this sled, too, so at least that is already handled. Pics coming soon...
Well, relatively soon...I have an outboard motor I need to rebuild, too, before the weather gets too nice here

I also have a '99. Wanted to work on clutching this off season. What would you reccommend for hard trail riding & occassional lake runs?
