Well I have been shopping around for quite sometime for an SRX. I have narrowed down my choice to a '98, '01 and an '02. The mileage and cleaness of the '01 and '02 are very close. Of course the mileage on the '98 is higher but it is equally as clean as the other two. Are there particular problems that I should be looking at based on the year? What about speed? or ride? Again based on year.

What are the prices between the 01 and the 02? I would go for the 2002 just for the DCS (detonation control system) alone as this could save your butt if you jet too lean or get some bad gas.
The 98's had a crank issue and they needed to be welded to prevent from going out of phase.
Some people say that the 2001 is the fastest by a slight bit, this could be just a myth as I (no gearhead by any means) see no reason that the 2001 would be faster than the 2000 or 2002. I have a 2000 and it runs great and fast but I would love the have the added security of DCS.

Oh yes forgot to mention the 2000 + were up a few horsepower from the 98-99 therefore being slightly faster stock, the 2000+ also have the dual headlight and higher output charging system, ride is about the same for all of them... much like a tractor at 25mph on anything but a flat surface, but I have gotten used to it again after riding my m-10 they all corner like they're on rails.

Thanks for your insight. As for price: $4000 for 2001 and $4200 for the 2002; CDN prices btw. I will using the sled as my second machine. My main ride will be 2004 Viper S, so I hope to keep away from rough trails on the SRX and save that for the Viper S. I had heard that the '98 had the fastest top speed, but the '01 and '02 got off the line faster...just something I had heard
Definitely go with the 01' or 02' just for the headlight. They are equally nice machines (01 and 02) and basically identical other than the DCS (02 only) and the 02' shaved off some weight and has different graphics from the 01.

Jeez for $200 bucks man I would definetly get the 02 providing they are in the same good condition. The real difference between the 98-99 and 2000-2002 is that the 2000+ had higher port specs, therefore making more top end horsepower, but the 98 and 99 pulled like freight trains down low as they have great torque. For anything else going deeper into the tech side of things you'll have to let somebody else chime in, there's guys here that know inside and outside of these things by memory, i'm not one of them lol.
Where is pefferlaw anyway? Those are some decent prices for those sleds, actually very decent.

alot of the 98-99 srx 700 dynoed 134-138hp most where between 134-136hp and the 2000and newer alo are 142-144hp.The 01 and 02 are lighter also.You can't go wrong with the 01 or 02 but If I had to choose it would be the 01.

they are very good prices. Pefferlaw is on the E side of Lake Simcoe, between Sutton and Beaverton. The dealer with the 01 and 02 is in Markham. I am more interested in the 02 then the others but thought I would it through this site; check and balance thing.

IMO go for the '01-02 they had more HP and looked better with the silver

I love the DSC, and you will too. Most of my riding is on simcoe, Barrie to Orillia WOT for around 20 Miles. I feel a little more comfortable now than i did with the 01' and 99' . I bought my 02 in Feb from a fellow TY member, $ 4000. 5800km, super clean and long travelled, you might be able to duke them a little more on the price. my $

It was only like 6 or 8 lbs lighter. It wasnt anything huge but they did lighten them up

i would go with 01 or 02 but i personally wouldnt want the dcs just another problem. all in opinions though.
