Looking for some expert help in improving the performance of a 96 vmax 600. The sled runs bogged and strained up to about fifty, then performs well. Last test run on trails attained 5.6 mpg.
The Carbs were "inspected" and "cleaned" by two different Yamaha shops (Gaylord and Toledo)in Feb. to the tune of over $400 and yet the sled continues to run like crap while sucking gas at an alarming rate.
Its great sled otherwise and with many $$$$ invested restoring the chasis to better than original condition, we're reluctant to unload it.
Thanks to anyone

Clutches in good shape? Reeds? Plug caps within spec?

check your beldt alignment, what's the rpm's at wide open throttle.I would assume the floats are adjusted right and the needle ans seats are still in good shape if tow guys inspected it.What kind of compression does the engine have.If it's way down on power you will be using more gas because you have to use more throttle than normal. Is it fouling plugs?
