Wow What A Day ! I Had The Chance To Talk To My Childhood Idol. 1971 And 1972 Eagle River World Champion, Mike Trapp! I Had Him Sign The Hood Of My 71 Sr 433, And Had The Opportunity To Have My Picture Taken With Him. We Talked For Awhile And He Explained To Me Why He Left Yamaha And Went On To Race Ski-doos. It Was A Great Time!

Glad your wish came true!
Hey I like your hat!
Sorry to make it short at the show. I only had a little bit of time.
Did you win anything for your nice machines?
See ya..

so tell us Leon, why did Mike leave Yamaha to go race skidoo's?
Ed Schubitzki (spelling?) did the same thing.

Mike said he left because even after winning 2 world championships, Mel Callaway who was the head of Yamaha's Snowmobile operations in the U.S.wanted to cut the amount of pay and support he was going to get for the 73 season, which Mike didn't think was right. He said that a friend of his knew someone at Ski Doo who made a phone call the same day and the next day he signed a contract with ski doo. I know after all these years I was always kinda ticked off about him leaving. But after talking to him I now understand. He really didn't have anything good to say about Mel Callaway. And he also said that people now do it all the time and went on to mention people like Steve and Mike Houle, Blare Morgan, and Guy Useldinger. Did you know that even Tim Bender went to see Ski Doo in the late 80's or early 90's. After talking to Mike I have a greater respect for him and he is truely very nice guy I guess that we all know that Yamaha has always been kinda wishy washy with their Snowmobile racing program.

yes. in the late 80's, early 90's most guys were racing skidoo's (or using rotax motors anyway).
