I just aquired a 1980 enticer for $100. I want to somewhat restore it. I used rustoleum of my phazer skis but the paint chips so easily. Is there anything out there that works like the factory paint? Do I need to buy myself a spray gun? I already have a gigantic compressor.

A spray gun and professional products will give the best results, 2 part epoxy primer is bullet proof.
With that said you can get good results with spray cans if you use engine enamel, it's way more durable than rust paint. If you take the time to do good surface prep you can get good results. If you have an old oven you can bake the parts after you spray them......depending on the size of the part.

I have had pretty good luck on painting small parts with outboard motor paint. It is way more durable than rustoleum. You can get it in spray cans at Boat US stores. The only colors available are black, silver, blue, or white. G.B.
Dave you need to polish your skid. Chrome will look awsome with the black.

Napa sells Martin Senour spray paint in a can called (Professional Detailers Line). It is the best spray paint I have found in a can. It is about $8 a can but lays out beautiful and is very easy to work with. There are many different colors and kinds of paint. There are paints specificly designed for metal, plastic, rubber, ect and everything I have tried works great. The (Chassie Black) is great for skis, springs, bulkheads, suspension parts ect. It is a satin black that is a very close match to OEM for those parts. The (Bumper Black) is specificly designed for plastic and rubber parts and is perfect for fuel tank covers, engine shrouds and other black plastic parts. The (Hi Temp Black) works great on exhaust and does not rub off onto your hands when dry like alot of other hi temp paints. There are also primers to match and even zinc weld-through primers. I wouldn't use it on hoods and other finished painted parts but works great on the rest of the machine. It's not a professional high dollar body shop job but is easy, inexpensive and close to what the factory would have done for engine and chassie items.
I use it all the time for sleds I want to dress up but arn't worth spending a fortune on at the body shop or powder coaters.
Good Luck, Phil (opsled)
