I Hate Carbs

Why does everything that i have that has a carb on it turns to **** a week after i buy it. I just bought this mini buggy a week ago, took it out a few days ago to go riding, it lasted about 10 minutes then it crapped out. It seems to be getting way to much fuel. SO i figured i'd adjust the floats so there wasn't as much fuel in the bowls sloshing around. Now no matter what i do the gas will not shut off. It just runs everywhere, it never stops. No matte rwhat i do with the tab, i've moved it every position imaginable and nothing. It's a 340 Enticer snowmobile engine by the way. And this *** **** thing is so old i can't find *** for it. I was gonna try to buy a rebuild kit or another carb but fat chance finding that crap. *** im so irritated right now... end of rant.

Being irritated is not an excuse for use of foul language.

Most likely the needle is not shutting off the fuel, here is a trick that sometimes can buy you some time. take off the bowl of the carb and remove the float assembly, you will notice the needle valve is attached to the float, inspect the tip of the needle valave, some have a rubber coating to help them seal, if the rubber end is all worn off you have to get a new one, if its in good shape, you can try this, take a drill bit the same size as the hole and using only your fingers spin it in the needle hole, this will resurface the needle jet and being its brass isnt hard to do, just barely remove some material. reinstall float assembly and set the float height so that when the carb is upside down the float top is 90 degrees parralell to the carb/float bowl machined surface edge.

This is your first warning.

No problem Mom, i'll behave.

Anyway what i don't understand is the needle valve is fine. If i blow into the port where the gas goes in i can hear the air going through, i slowly push up the float and it seals no problem. So i'm guessing the floats are getting stuck somehow. Doesn't matter now anyway, since i've been messing with that tab so much it got weak and broke off today. So now i have the joy of searching for a early 80's 340 carb, looks like i'm not going riding for a few weeks, doh

you can get a replacement kehlin carb right off of dennis kirk or hi-perf engineering. maybe they have floats.

yea, sounds like either a float that has become a sink, or maybe just a bad seal if you're lucky.

either way I'd order a new float and the seal aswell, since the seal will only be a buck or 2.
