I am going to add approx 3" of foam to my 02 viper seat. Was wondering if anyone had tips or suggestions on doing this. I want it to be a flat top. Not tapered down (dont like how it looks). I plan on using high density foam and glueing it on to the existing foam. Since it will be a flat top it will come up higher on the gas tank. My biggest question is: Do I have to put a hard piece of something between the tank and my foam. or can I just shape the foam to fit around the tank. look forward to your input.
here is pics of my sled: 1)do I need a frame or other hard material where the red line is 2)how I want it to be 3)how its is now
(please excuse my terrible paint skills)

You may want to try BETHEVIPER-- he has experience adding foam and re-doing viper seats.
I'm making a seat riser 2x3 in rise. I will post pictures and a how to do it information when completed.
Do a search for seat foam or riser on a viper and you will find several pics plus people to contact to help answer all your questions.

Here is my seat on my Vmax. Since the snaps at the front didn't move there is a gap at the tank. I added 4" of hd foam. I like it a lot. I added a 1" spacer and Viper bars, could stand a bit more rise and it would be perfect, pretty good as it is now though.
I did have a front snap start to tear out due to the "stretch."

i've looked at the posts about risers and adding foam but do not see any that come up on the tank. I made a seat riser and don't mind that, but a have a couple of seam tears in my seat so I want to take it off and fix it. Thought it may be a good time to try and make a high-rise seat out of it. If you have or know where there are pics of seats that come up onto the tank please post them.

what you want to do is to bring the line tward the top of the tank, then you can sew a ring around it to hold the front of the seat tight to the tank. the bottom sides will need to extend to the front most section of the tank at the lowes point to attach to the frame to hold the foam down on the tank. you will need to cover all exposed foam under with vinal so it doesnt suck water.

When you say sew a ring on the top do you mean to go around the gas filler neck? I have the delux tank bag and was thinking of trying to incorporate it into the seat somehow, as the bag attaches to the tunnel below the gas tank (can see in pics above). I like the storage from the bag so I would hate to loose it. Or I may just leave the bag on and put the seat overtop of it.
Is there any tricks to sewing vinyl, can I do it on a home sewining machine, or should this be left up to the pros at a shop? Is the only place to buy vinyl from a upolstery shop? What cold crack spec. do I need? if I can sew this at home do I need special thread? If there is anyone with experiance recovering seats, I sure would apprciate some insight.
