Found this article,thought I would post it for you 2002 SRX owners:
Top Performance: SRX
Yamaha states that the SRX is based on industry-leading engine technology like self-cleaning power valves, 3D ignition system, liquid-heated flatslide carbs and new for this year is an automatic detonation control system.

The SRX is for the go-quick guy. Based on our 11th annual Shoot-Out results the SRX can zip through a quarter mile in nearly 12 seconds flat. That was the best out-of-box experience we've seen at any Shoot-Out. So the performance is real.

Yamaha's Detonation Control System allows leaner production carb settings to reliably produce increased power. Since the mix is leaner, the sled gets improved fuel efficiency.

The DCS monitors combustion vibration for signs of possible detonation, which may come from poor fuel, water or contaminants in the fuel. When detonation problems are detected, the ignition timing adjusts until detonation ceases.

When the DCS reacts, you get up to three stages of action:
1. Upon initial detection, the ignition timing retards 3 degrees;

2. If detonation continues, the timing sets back 6 degrees and you see a quick flash from the console mounted warning light;

3. If engine-damaging levels prevail, the ignition reduces top revs to a "limp home" mode of 6400 revs and the indicator lamp continues to flash. When the detonation stops, the system automatically resets itself.

We found when test riding an SRX with regular grade fuel and jetting set 10 jets too lean for Midwestern riding conditions that the sled automatically retarded itself. When we held the throttle wide open in spite of the monitored warning, the sled backed down to 6400 revs, reset the ignition and then climbed back out until the jetting and low grade gas once again required a sensor reaction. We couldn't burn the engine down. And we were trying. This will most likely be a coming feature for all future sleds as it beats the Polaris dual mode switch in peace of mind for owners.

Key 2002 SRX features:
• Dual bulb halogen headlamps;
• 145 horsepower, 700cc Power Valve-equipped three-into-three triple;
• Dual-piston hydraulic brake with inner ventilated rotor for improved cooling and stopping power;
• ProAction chassis and suspension systems for flat cornering and high speed performance;
• CNC machined exhaust ports;
• Powder metal forged pistons;
• 300 watt ignition with 3-D timing;
• Plastic skis;
• End Goal: Maximum horsepower and quick accelerating machine for very competitive riders.

I found it interesting that in the testing as mentioned above,with 10 jet sizes leaner and regular fuel,they couldn't burn the engine down.Now that is COOL.;)! :rockon: :WayCool:

Alittle more for you 2002 SRX owners:

Blink and you'll miss Wisconsin.

Let's face it: When it comes to top performance snowmobiles, the SRX® simply has no equals.

Just ask any other machine unlucky enough to have gone up against it at the recent 2001 American Snowmobiler Shoot-Out, where in the 10 years since this competition's debut, the SRX ran the quickest quarter-mile time ever. Yep, ever.

Call it the speed demon extraordinaire, with one significant exception amongst the muscle sled set: The SRX also boasts the sort of superlative handling that gives most top-end trail machines a run for their money.

First, though, let's cover the SRX engine. With even more muscle in 2002, this powerplant continues to lead the industry in state-of-the-art engine technology. Want proof? Check out our industry-first features such as triple high-flow, liquid-heated 33mm flat-slide Mikuni carbs, ultra-precise 300-watt digital CDI ignition, throttle position sensor (TPS), self-cleaning electronic power exhaust valves, and an all-new-for-2002 detonation sensor that utilizes Indy car technology to increase horsepower and improve upon our already legendary durability. Simply put, you won't find more ballistic acceleration anywhere.

Add a featherweight ProAction System® chassis, wide ski stance and state-of-the-art ProAction suspension with aluminum-bodied KYB gas shocks, and that makes the SRX, according to Snowmobile magazine, "the best-handling multi-piped sled on snow."* No wonder they crowned this bad boy their "2001 best of class."** Might also explain why the competition has yet to figure out how to beat it.

*January '01 **Best of Class: High-Output Triples

daman,just watch your rpm and don't blow her up.A lot of 2001's were known to blow up re:jetting.Just make sure you don't do more then 50mph on it:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

It is good to know these things

no problem guys.The more I can find on the 2002 SRX,the better I am and we all can be .Knowing that the DCS is doing it's job is a life saver.I just love my SRX and next season it will be a runner.

BLUEMONSTER1, NO 01 SRX,s BLEW UP. MATTER OF FACT, THE 01 SRX SET THAT RECORED AT THE AMSNOW SHOOTOUT NOT THE 02. THE 01 SRX CAME WITH RICHER JETTING THAN THE 00. THEIR WERE SOME PROBLEMS ON THE 00 SRX BURNING DOWN ON WOT RUNS, THATS WHY IN 01 YAMAHA UPED JETTING. THAN THEY BACK OFF AGAIN IN 02 WITH THE DCS. I LOVE MY 02. GREAT SLED. 3:16 (yammie tony)

That info was all on the yamaha website back in 2001.

I have the poster of the 2001 SRX running that quickest quarter mile at that shootout. It is laminated and framed. (no I wont sell it) My dealer mailed me one for free..

The DCS has saved my A$$ countless times.

Ooooops,my mistake.You are right their Tony.There were problems with the 2000's and in 2001 they up the jetting.I have re-jetted myself to the 2001 SRX's because DCS was still coming on alot.Seems way better now with that jetting.The DCS is a beautiful device to have in those times of uncertainty,ie...bad gas,water in gas or octane levels to low.Still comes down that the SRX's are one bad sled.Acceleration and top ends are nothing to sneeze at.
;) :rockon: ;)!

Right on! 12.003 seconds and 0-60mph in 3.3 sec. Quick, fast, reliable, etc etc etc....

Stock up on extra powervalves & cables tho. I sure don,t miss fixing those every year!!!!

Sure you miss it Turk.I have some extra's in case and will be stocking up my collection for the future anyways.Hey Turk..since you have a four stroke,you can grass drag on a hot day like we have today with no problems.

definately are one of a kind, nothing beats the performance of them out of the box for there time and the looks.... no sled to me looks better, this is just my opinion guys lol no need to spark a war here lol

I second that Skidooslayer.I take the cover off mine every couple of days,just got to eyeball the beast.She looks good.Yamaha should have kept the tradition going with the SRX.One of a kind,and everyone knows about them.I noticed last season when driving down the river,the Skidoo's and Artic Cats don't want anything to do with me.This season I'll be ready for anyone if they want a race.My SRX will be completely redone to specs and a few extra things.It will be like a brand new sled,only have 3400 miles on it..just breaking it in yet.
:bling: :bling: :bling:
