I bought an opitcool head gasket and when I had my pipes put on the shop told me that the head gasket was like a band-aid it wouldn't fix the problem and he said that I needed to have the head milled. So I guess what I'm asking is are these head gaskets a waste of money? Any info will help.

My pipes are CPRs with heavy hitter clutch kit.

Not a waste of money but youll still wanna have your stock head milled if your running trip pipes. So since your running CPRs(Jeff Simons) youll wanna send it to them. I believe it costs around $150 to have the head milled. Opti-Cool Head gasket slows the flow of the coolant, so more heat can be transfered to it. Some guys running trip pipes also swap out their Viper base gaskets for a SRX gasket which has smaller coolant passages. Is done for the same reason as the opti-cool, stops the coolant from rushing through the top end and lets the coolant do its job.

So when I have the heads milled will it make a difference if I put the opti-cool on? (vs. the stock gasket)

Yes it will still do its job and help cool better, which helps prevent detonation. The milled head lowers the compression on the mag and center cylinders, which also helps prevent detonation. I would do both, along with the srx base gasket and rear heat exchanger.l

there were some guys on here who had sets of mega power heads. that would be the best bet. Maxdlx
