Hey guys, we bought a couple of new 06 Attaks and absolutely love them. One problem though, our old sleds, V-Max-4 750's are being ridden by our friends, but by the time we get out a little ways and just start having fun, they have to start looking for fuel! Any suggestions to increase the fuel economy of the old fours? Never realized they were so thirsty till we got the 4 Strokes, are we just spoiled now? G.

Aint happenen unless you are pullin a 50 gallon fuel barrel behind one of those 4 strokes. Do all the tunin you want, slide a hummingbirds egg down the thumb of your right glove and ride it without breaking the egg and you won't come close to keeping up with a 4 stroke on fuel. Get that old 4 dialed right, take the gloves off and put em both out on the lake and that old Vmax will give that new 4 stroke all it can handle and then some but they arn't wine sippers. They are fuel chuggin hogs with as big a thirst for fuel as they have for speed. Ya gotta enjoy them for what they are, ANIMALS.

Yep. TourBuddy is he only answer.
I bought a spare belt guard for my 01 SXR600 so I can swap the Tour Buddy in or out depending on the plan for the day.
Adding Triple pipes dropped my meileage a bit.

Tour buddy! Hmmmn! I had forgotten about those, thanks. I had talked with a fellow who said he added an altitude compensater to his 95 800 four and nursed 150 k per tank out of it! I find that had to swallow as I my 750 was always easier on fuel than my buddy's 800's and I never saw much over 100 k per tank!
"Hummingbird egg", that's funny. Yeah ditto on the old fours grunt, everyonce in awhile I'm enjoying the scenery and the ride and one of the old fours goes roasting past and snaps me out my daydream, still looking and sounding so damn cool! We had the 93 out here last winter beating up some 800 kitty cats, it was too funny to watch.
Love this Attak so much, spent thousands of trouble free miles on my old four, my 540 max before that and other assorted yammy's before that all the way down to a 71 SS 433, but this Attak! Man, you don't want to get off it! Put 4500 k last winter alone! My friends think I'm crazy, I'm drooling for snow already! Thanks all. Blessings, keep the shiny side up....for awhile. G.

theblues - Do you notice the extra weight on the one side like that?
Not at all, a hard core sledder would...I'm not into speed, just a good reliable trail sled..the fuel is drawn from the tour buddy first...I get between 70 to 95 k's out of it before it draws from the main...I may pick up another belt guard and change it out when only doing day trips...it's just nice to know that the group doesn't have to stop or look for fuel because I'm with them that day...

That's pretty considerate of you! I still ride with smokers, so we all run out of gas about the same time - would be nice ti have an extra 50 miles when riding in the UP though. Great info - thanks for sharing!theblues said:Not at all, a hard core sledder would...I'm not into speed, just a good reliable trail sled..the fuel is drawn from the tour buddy first...I get between 70 to 95 k's out of it before it draws from the main...I may pick up another belt guard and change it out when only doing day trips...it's just nice to know that the group doesn't have to stop or look for fuel because I'm with them that day...

I guess for a viper 2.5 lbs would be under 17 lbs. + whatever the tank weighs. Seems like a good setup.
Check out this link...under (C) for closeouts...they still have a few...dry weight was about 2lbs or so...

We rode quite a bit last winter with a piped Viper Mountain and an SRX. We noticed that unless they were working hard, the yammy triples were real close to the 4 strokes in mileage already, so the tour buddy would be a real boon.
Talked with a guy with a Vector and he says he gets 300 k per fill!!!!! Wow, talk about a rolling jerry can! The Attaks are good, but not that good. G.

The carbed three cylinder engines are VERY good on gas if you are nice to them. Over 20 mpg is common if you are riding fairly easy. Still 18 mpg if you are beating on it. Changing out the carb springs definately makes them worse though.
