I have a stock mountain max 700. I'm shopping for a new track and was considering going to a 144 or even a 151, mostly because they are easier to find.. Would the 151 be pushing the limits of the stock engine??

I don't think the 144 or 151 are too much track for a stock engine. I installed a 151 on a stock 97 mm and it worked OK. I changed my gears to 20:42 if memory serves. If you don't change the gears, depending on your riding style the sled can be hard on belts and cause the clutches to heat. Your added hook up will come at the expense of top speed even if you don't change gears. You may have to play with the set up to make it corner since it might want to push a little more than your 141. You can also expect the skid frame to be a little more fragile with the extenders you will need. Hope this helps you.

I would have really liked to go with a 151 after having tried out my buddy's sled (2001 mm700), but at the time I had an offer of a used 144 track off of a 05 RMK for cheap. I got the extension tabs from Hartman and had my buddy change the track in for me. I REALLY liked the 144 for all around riding. Plus, you don't have to get a tunnel extension, although I'm sure there are some out there that have put on a 151 and not extended. Either way, your new track will be equivalent in weight, or maybe even less than the original yokohama golfball chucker piece of junk, so power shouldn't be an issue.

Go with the 151!! When i shredded my 144 track i went to a 151 and it made a huge difference on deep pow days. Definitely not too much track for the 700. If you do it, put anti-ratchet drivers or it will skip like a SOB. It would also be a good idea to put a mtn performace transfer enhancement kit on.
With the 144 tunnel i did not need a tunnel ext. but if you have a 136 stock you will need to, if you have a 141 tunnel now you could probably get away without extending but your flap will get sucked in a lot.

orderd all the stuff for 151 from Hartman today.
Seems like an excellant, upstanding sort of guy, very easy to deal with.

If you feel a little short on power pipes will fix it. Your style of riding will determine what you need. I could push a 159 with power to spare. Put on Anti-ratchet drivers for sure. The extra float and dig will make you very happy.

Bender tripple pipes are already installed and dialed in.
