on my viper a orange cuation light came on and next to it a little oil can symbol also came on...i am not dripping oil and it runs great...any ideas?

thanks

Don't take this the wrong way... but is this a trick question??? The answer is just so obvious to me that i'm too scared to say "it's a 2 stroke....add some oil" in fear of being wrong. lol.

lol sorry... i just had to. I know you know better than to let it run out of oil, the only things that I can think of off the top of my head are bad oil sensor or possibly a wire harness rub through under the motor. Good luck.

DUDE, I,LL BAIL YA OUT AGAIN. GET IT OVER TO HOLLINKS. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLITIN ON THAT OIL SENSOR RIGHT THROUGH YAMAHA. HOPE YOUR STILL COVERED. I HAD MINE UPDATED ON MY 2000 SRX. I MIGHT HAVE PART # IF YA NEED IT. VERY EASY TO CHANGE BUT MIGHT BE MESSY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

CALL SAGE, TELL HIM YOU TALKED TO ME. HAVE HIM CHECK THIS PART # 8CR-85720-01-00. THIS WILL CURE PROBLEM. THIS IS IN 02 YAMAHA TECH MANUAL UNDER ''OIL LEVEL GAUGE FAILURE '' 3:16 (yammie tony)

If not

If it's not still covered under warranty, let me know. If I dig around I think I can find one of those.

I dont remember for sure but does the caution light come on as well with the low oil light?? usually the caution light (orange) is on for low fuel level in tank, I think if its under 2 bars in the gas guage.

ok, I see, I couldnt remember if both came on or just the oil light alone, I know 8 out of 10 times the orange one is on for low fuel, thanx

Great info, thanks! So the oil light comes on on my 2000 SRX (with full oil!) at idle RPM, then goes out once it winds up. Did Yamaha offer a replacement of the sensor under warranty? I just bought this last year so the original owner must not have done the replacement. Do I just need to buy a new sensor now?

Just a thought but my srx started doing that and it was from the wiring harness rubbing through under the motor where they all do. Once i fixed the wiring harness my oil light problem went away too.

THAT RUBING IS DEFFERENT PROBLEM WITH SAME RESULTS. ANYWAYS MY OIL LITE STARTED FLICKERING ON MY 2000 SRX. I REPLACE WITH UPDATED SENSOR, PROBLEM SOLVED. I HAVE NOT HAD HARNESS PROBLEM ON MY 00 YET. HAVE YOUR DEALER CHECK THIS NUMBER FOR YA ! 8CR-85720-01-00 3:16 (yammie tony)
