Hey guys, been awhile since I posted about my engine build for my SRX, been busy at work and havnt had time really. However, I do have the engine apart, which has turned out to be a huge mistake on my part lol. I had taken the top end dof the engine all apart to put new rings in and freshen it up. So when i go home (I live at my g/f's down in London Ontario) I find my motor apart even more, turns out my 16 year old brother thought he'd play mechanic on me and started splitting the bottom end! Not good as I didnt even want to touch it. But whats done is done, and after a #$%&* lol i forgave him. Now the question.... How do i split the bottom end, all the bolts are out (meaning the long ones that actually hold the case together, the water pump alumininum piece is off and all the actual motor mounts are off. The case is split on the PTO end (meaning the seal has been broken between the 2 halves) however the other end will not split, and I dont want to force anything as all i really want to do it split it, clean it up and seal it back up, i do not want to touch anything down there unless you guys think i really have to now that its been split. How do i go about seperating the stator end of the case? the recoils off and the little plate inside that holds the wires with 2 phillips screws is also off. Do I have to pull the stator off to split the casings?? Any help on this guys would be much appreciated, and any parts that you guys think should be changed when its apart will help to. Help me get out of this mess please!!!! lol

Thanks in advance

Get yourself a service/technical manual as you'll need it for the torques and such as well as answers about the proper sequences for breakdown as well as reassembly.

Get that SLED back together. You have some Ski-doo's to slay man.I am all ready for the winter to arrive. I want to dial in the Heelclickers on my SRX.I have the need for speed.Good luck on your engine re-build there.

lol 4 sure bluemonster, she'll be back together soon enough, hopefully before snow, if not then not a huge deal either I would rather spend the time and do it right then have something go wrong.

bolin-- I planned on replacing the crank seals, lol dam brother lol

Wow... you got the PTO end to split before the mag side??? You are my hero!!! you should have that split in no time then. If I remember right, you do need to take the stator off of the crank in order to split the case. This is just because there is a wire from the stator being held in place by a small tab... such a small detail but just enough that you'll need to remove it (again... if I remember right, this was the case on my sx bottom end buy I haven't split the srx bottom end yet) Once the stator is removed and you have the PTO side split already (still don't know how you did that first) you should be able to take a rag to the inside of the stator / flywheel / recoil section of the case and give it a little persuasion with a hammer hitting the rag (so you don't damage the aluminum) I have tried prying between the case halves before and it just marked up the mating surfaces. Once you have them split and cleaned (I use a razor blade and some steel wool) give one case half a good even coat of anaerobic flange sealant. Don't get carried away with it, just a nice even coating to seal up the case. Wipe the excess off with a rag once you tighten everything. Torque to specs before and after the sealant has dried.

Make sure you clean the inside of the case really well if you managed to get any crud in there... it can be hard on bearings.

This is just the way I do it. It's tricky to get the cases split some times and i'm sure there are easier ways to split them. Somebody else will likely chime in and improve on my method. lol.
