This machine is an 03 4100 miles. It has all the common problems dim lights, crazy dash, won't pull top rpm. Did a search read alot. now I am testing the ohms on the stator. The reading is supposed to be .36 to .44. I have .4 on one side and nothing on the other, using mr viper's test. I think the stator is bad but the machine starts and runs almost perfect. The dash acts normal when the headlights are unplugged. Any ideas or input would be appreciated. THANKS

Altho I can't comment on the testing...but mine did the same thing...it would start..idle perfectly etc...and then when I'd goose it...it would spurt..burp, hiccup etc
needless to say I found a replacement at a local wreckers...also unsure if the wire rub through has been looked at either? (but that doesn't sound like yer problem)...

Well it ended up being the stator. the braided wires are soldered to the solid wires and one wire was broken off. So we just soldered it back together and it tested good. Then put it on the sled and whala, back to normal.

Did the same repair on my 02 ER at about 7,000 miles. She's at about 12,000 miles now, still working!
