What is different between these two sleds? besides the cosmetics. Which would win in a race both sleds being stock except sxr has a 1.25 ripsaw.

viper has a power valed motor and the sxr has a non power valved motor. the sxr is about 112 hp stock and the viper is about 130 hp stock. the viper would win IMO it has more HP and i think gearing is higher too.

i saw a stock viper dyno sheet and it was right around the 116-118hp mark.
my buddy has a 2000 sxr 700 and i have a 2002 viper ER. When they were both stock (few years ago) I could pull his sxr by a couple of sled legnths right through to top end and he had no chance of catching me.
He then put on a 1.25 predator track...he could get the hole shot then I would reel him in. I put in 120 studs...holeshot varied on conditions then pretty much same top end. I put in 168 studs...he started pulling me on top end. He piped and clutched his .... i couldn't touch him. I streteched mine to 136" ripsaw and geared down 1 tooth.....i got holeshot everytime but his taillight was a bit further away again on top end.

Viper should win - probably not by a lot though if they are both stock and have .92 high tracks.

The Viper also had that "ram-air" style airbox where it has the vents near the windshield and at high speeds its supposed to cram more air into the engine and, as was said, the Viper has powervalves.
In terms of chassis I think they are pretty much the same.
I think the Viper had about 5 hp on the SXr, so the Viper should win in a drag race. Other factors such as clutching, jetting, track lug height, number of studs, suspension setup and rider weight do play a role though.
