First off hello,
I just bought an 89 srv. I am fairly new to sleds. Iv owned several but am still somewhat new to them. I was wanting to know where I can get parts for this sled, Im needing little misc things, tail light lens, tail and head light bulb. and id like to get the plastic covers for the front suspension upper and lowers.
The sled needs a fuel pump but runs off of gas sprayed in the carb.
also the oil injection has been removed by the previous owner, what all should I check out to get this winter ready.
thanks in advance, slow1

I'd take it to a good reputable Yamaha dealer and have them give it a once over. The carbs probably need to be cleaned among other things. There's tons that you can do, lubrication and cleanliness is always good. I always say, that if there was just more lubrication in the world, there'd be a lot less friction! As for cleanliness, I've always found a nicely polished sled much faster, more fuel efficient, nicer riding, and more reliable than a grubby one.
If you really want the trouble free Yamaha experience? Take care of your yammie, and she'll generally take care of you. The first thing that I've have them do is to hook up the oil injection again, it's a pretty dependable, fool proof system and I wouldn't go back to the mixing experience for nothing! Fewer fouled plugs, less oil consumption, just a much better way to go.
As for parts, what Yamaha doesn't have or can no longer get, you're looking for; from a myriad of sources, from wreckers to the local newspaper. Yamaha is pretty good though and sometimes you're really surprised by what you can still get.
Enjoy my friend, that little SRV is not a bad little sled to play with at all. Check out Aaen and others for carbs, pipes etc. That 540 will actually shock the hell out of a lot of people if you want to play with it, reliable too. Best. G.

I have a set of carb jets and stock reeds for that sled if you're interested.
The best place for used parts is Ebay. Ebay has a bunch of parts for the SRV.
As far as oil injection. If it's been taken off, I would not spend the money putting it back on. Premix is the only bullet proof oil system. Most Yami oil injections were reliable, but it only takes one bad on to burn up a motor. If you are running premix 40:1 with Yamalube is good.
The SRV is a simple single carb air cooled with lots of power to weight ratio.
Clean the carb, put a fuel pump rebuild kit in, jet for your riding altitude, new belt. You are set.
