ok so i want to tune up my red head 700 for the winter....
the stock clutching on it is horrible... so i hope some clutch gurus chime in on this for me for a solid setup lake/trail
also what about reed spacers/reeds? or thin head gasket?
input please!

Tech pages have it all - you're right on - clutching, reed spacers or notches, peel the headgasket.

you're local dealer should have some in stock. if not, order a whole wack load in, they are cheap... very cheap. I tried the 8DN-20's in my 600 last season after I took my PI End Dumps off and they still seemed to work well. They have a great all around profile in my opinion. You're 700 should be able to handle a set of 4.5g's in the tip, that's what my stock 600 was pulling with 1 layer head gasket removed, reed notch, and green secondary at 60. I still hit about 110 mph on the speedo on a straight gravel road (hard packed with snow) Not even 5 mph less then with my PI end dumps... and that was with an m-10 and 1.25" 6 pitch track.. I still have yet to hit 115 on my SRX on speedo. I also found out that my sled was geared up 1 tooth from stock too though. I personally would gear down 1 tooth on top aswell if you're sticking with the single pipe. Other's will likely have some more input for you.
Good luck.
Good luck.
This is exactly what mrviper700 sent me in a PM for clutching my SX
"id drop a tooth up top on gearing and use a set of 8dn-10, 99 srx weights in front clutch, use 2.4 rivet in tip, empty middle hole. along with a yellow-silver-yellow yamaha primary spring, something close to a 48/42 rear helix with green yamaha secondary spring should get ya close, this will wake up the sled."
also, he told me in another PM to set the secondary spring wrap at 60

I have a max white primary spring 14.5 rollers 8dn 20-s
52-42 helix green sec spring.
Take out 2 of the 3 layers in the head gasket.Do the reed stopper notch mod, bore the stock silencer.Jet down a size. There is more but these are off the top of my head.
If you want to take down f7's with the single pipe send the top end to mrviper.

This is what Turk told me to do to my 01 sxr 700.
"Here is exactly what to do on that sled.
142.5 main jets right across
lower needles 1/2(move 1 plastic shim from bottom of clip to the top)
silencer mod
reed spacers
change inner rivet froma 3.6 gram to a 4.5 gram
get a rx-1 helix & run it at 60 degree wrap
I have set up a lot of those sleds including a few of my own."
