Took my carbs apart on my 98 srx700 today to clean them. When I took the main jets out this is how I found them , clutch side 146.3 center 146.3
mag side 148.8 , is this right ?

Bigger main goes on mag side but usually centre cylinder goes kaboom!.

In that climate....down there in Maine.....it's not going to go Kaboom with that jetting. I used to run 146.3 146.3 147.5 up here in northern Ontario.

One question though.........why is the mag side jet 2 sizes bigger? Do some plug checks when you get up and running this winter. I bet you'll find that you will drop that 148.8 to a 147.5.

RIGHT!!

98 srx does have the bigger main on the mag side, due to it reciving the strongest electrical signal thus being hooter then drawn down voltage, kinda like a extension cord, the longet the cord the more the voltage drop at the end. Its the later years srx that yamaha decided the pto side got the larger main from the added clutch heat.

Hmmm spec is PTO #1 147.5, #2 & #3 146.3 centre and mag for my 2000.

The 1998 and 1999 srx's were opposite, and the bigger main did go in the mag. Then in 2000 the pto got the bigger main. 2000 jetting is too lean for safe wide-open running on cold days as well.
