I'm currently in the middle of trying to decide weather to 144 or 151 my 04 Viper. I'm planning on installing a lightwight mountain skid from Mountain Performance. After several conversations with one of the customer service reps, he is trying to convince me that I should install a track with a 3.0 pitch rather than 2.52 to reduce ratcheting, is this wise???

I've also weighed my options between the full skid conversion and just the extension kit, I really think the lightweight skid is the answer

I'm looking for whatever advise I can get right now.....especiallyin terms of cutching/gearing

thanks!

The 3.0 pitch is not going to stop your sled from racheting. Extrovert drivers will. If you run a 3.0 pitch the track will be lighter because the crossbars in the track are farther apart. Less rotating mass = HP. You will have to go with a 153 if you use the 3.0 track.

While I dont have much to say about the 3.0 pitch, I say go for the 151 over the 144. It made a huge difference on mine going 144 to 151. Do it right the first time because if you go 144 you will end up wanting the extra length eventually. Definitely go with the extro drivers or you will have to run it way too tight for it to not ratchet.

So you guys think that the 2.52 pitch would be fine? I had planned on getting the 8 tooth anti-ratchet drivers....are these the same as the extrovert drivers?

yes they are the same. and yes, i think the 2.52 would do you fine, its what im running. I had thought about going to a 153 when i did mine, but was able to get a good used 151 track for waaaay cheaper. So that kinda determined it for me.

Thanks! Now that I have the track situaion figured out I can concentrate on other setup issues.....I'm going from a 121" stock setup

151 with Extro's for sure. I put a xtra lite skid out of an 04 sks in my mm last year and should have done it years ago. For a little over $300 I ended up with a decent used skid with freshened Ryde fx remote shocks. The skid is 25 lbs. light out of the box and transfers way better than the original. I had MPI's transfer kit on my yammi skid too. One of the best mods I have done...right up there with pipes IMO. MPI's lightweight skid looks nice but also looks very pricey.

Forgot, my $.02 on the track pitch would be to stay 2.52. There seems to be a better selection of take-off's which will save you some $ if you shop around and are patient.

I beleve there's actually a transfer enhancement kit included within MPI's lightweght skid, seems t be an excellent option from what I've heard. I've been noticing that a good used 151" track is hard to come by....they go like hotcakes on Snowest!

you're right, there is. What I found with mine was it was hard to find a happy medium between good ride and good transfer. My MM had the cheap steel body shock anyway, so for $300 I got into some good shocks with a fresh rebuild tuned for my riding and weight, the ability to go 151" without extensions, 25 lbs lighter, better ride, and more managable transfer with less trenching (I honestly thought my old skid was great until I had my 1st ride on the xtra lite). To make the whole deal sweeter for me I was able to sell my old skid complete for about $200......out of pocket for me was right about $100 after it was all said and done.

I'm not knocking the MPI stuff as I have plenty on my sled. Just my $.02 on the skid subject. Budget isn't everything but I got a lot of good info from people here and on snowest before I decided to change mine. Best bang for the buck for me. I have found several tracks for cheap on Snowest, patience and timing seem to be the key. This is probably a bad time as everyone is wrapping up their summer projects.

if you dont mind spending $350 you can get a like new m7 skid, i got this 153" m7 skid brand new takeoff with fox zero pro shocks for $350 from a dealership so the deals are out there and you will save a lot from making your stock suspension handle and drop the pounds like an arctic skid. I set mine back to a 159" and looks great, my sled also started out as a 121".

I have to agree....there seems to be plenty of options out there in terms of converting skids. The main reason I've been drawn to MPI's skid is because it gives me everything I need.....as well as detailed instructions....although I'm still keeping my options open for sure!
