Can you safely remove a layer of the head gasket on a piped 700 MM? I've heard both yes and no. Thanks for the help.

I have seen a lot of guys remove 2 layers & still not able to blow em up; even down at 1200' elevation.

Check your squish area first. My friend blew his up above 8000 ft after peeling a gasket. There are some differences in the tolerances from the factory.

I have two layers out on my 99 SLP piped Mtn Max 700. I ride anywhere from 2200-10,000. So far no problems. I do run a splash or two of AV fuel in each tank.

Safe enough but I'm not convinced you'll gain much.

I have done it to two MM, worked ok and does make a small difference, enough to be worth the effort IMO.

Removed two layers from 99 MM700 with PI end-dumps with well over 9000 miles on the sled and have never opened the engine.

I have over 10000 miles with power inc pipes at 600 foot elevation with no problems it doesn't affect your compession or squish enough to worry about it they are way safe from the factory
